Go for Ninja 250cc .. It's got slightly better performance then CBR...

Depends on what kinda rider you are. If you like to ride like there is no tomorrow, then go for a ninja. If you like touring, going to unknown places opt for the CBR.

I am a ninja owner and i would be really honest here. THe Ninja is good in some areas but bad in others. The CBR is good in some and bad in other.

1) Revvy engine. YOu would like this Ninja screamer beyond 8K rpm. For the power to be unleashed you have to put the engine in the powerband of 8K-12K rpm. THe CBR tops out at 10K rpm but has power at lower rpms than the NInja.
2) Torque: when driving in the city the Ninja is a pain as the torque is less. On the other hand the CBR has a torquey engine and is good fun riding at lower rpms.
3) Terrain: NInja is no fun to ride on bumpy roads/offroads. THis doesnt mean that you cant take it there. THE CBR is way better than the NINja in these conditions. BUt both of them doesnt come anywhere near my bullet
4) Top Speed and Acceleration: THe NInja is better in both as it is a twin cylinder. None of them gives you a blowjob like acceleration thou.
5) Seating position: I think its more or less the same for both the bikes but i have heard mixed reactions. NOne too sporty none too upright. If you think its too sporty sit on a GT650R, if you think its too upright, sit on a bullet
6) Quality: Have had no issues with Ninja so far. Havent heard any one complaining either (except for the price of the spare parts).
7) A.S.S: THe after sales from Bajaj has been exemplary. No complaints on how they serviced my bike for the last 24K kms. Have heard that Honda has had some quality issues. But i believe they are in the process of ironing it out. See the new Ninja has been there from 2008 (the old one from 1988) and Honda from 2011. So kawasaki has had a whale of a time to iron out the issues than Honda. It might take Honda some time to resolve them fully.
8) Spare parts: Ninja is extremely costly.
Was dumb enough not to check if the side stand was on! and dropped my bike and broke the rear view mirror and had to pay 2300 bucks for a single rear view mirror. The Honda spareparts are much cheaper but there seems to be less supply since the bike is new.

So in a nut shell if you need a performance oriented, high revving bike and can take some hit on your bank balance if you drop it, go for the Ninja. On the other hand, if you are more into touring, worried about bumpy roads and lack of torque, want to go easy on your wallet go for the Honda.

just to add.. ninja 250 has evolved since 1986. so over the years it has evolved , though their is still room for improvement..

Purely from price to performance ratio - CBR 250R

Purely from Performance and brag factor - Ninja 250

If you are inclined towards the Ninja, then take a loan for 2L more, and buy the N650, else stay below 2Lakhs and buy the CBR250.

The pricing of the CBR250 has positioned it in too tempting a place. And with the 650 around, if you really wanna cross 3Lakhs for a bike, then might as well go the whole hog and buy a 650.

@OP: As Jakrap mentioned, the cost of the RVM is 2300 for the ninja. And I got the RVM (left one) changed for the CBR today...at 390

You can see the difference. The Ninja blows you away once it is in the power-band. The CBR blows you away right from the start till say 7k rpm on the sixth which is 112 kmph.

Moreover, the CBR is half the price of the Ninja. Choice is yours

I would disagree that Ninja is a pain to ride in the city. I used it daily to commute to office. The bike is geared very well, so that it even pulls decently enough even in 6th.
Infact, I have read a couple of a road tests that concluded the CBR just starts knocking in higher gears from low speeds.

- Way too expensive. Even the spares.
- Spares may take a long time to become available.
- Gets a little too much attention (only applicable for Green)

CBR 250R

Pros
- Very practical
- Great economy
- Adequate , usable power
- Looks decent with a wide rear tyre.

Cons
- Handling is not as sharp as the Ninja (but still quite good)
- Quality issues (based on discussion with CBR owners)
- 12L fuel capacity
- Not enough LE torque (based on magazine reviews)

Thnks guys fr spilling out the beans. money is always gonna be a hurdle but i think i can work my way around (not fr the n650 though...i might jst get lost) gonna tke some time and try and ride both of these bikes to get a feel for myself...........in the meanwhile ride safe..........cheers!!!!!!

Now it depends on you whether you want a Performance Oriented Bike (N250R) or an Efficient & Enjoyable Bike (CBR250R)

Dont have any issues with my CBR (Almost 3 months old - 900kms)

I have had a chat with, both here and telephonic, baby ninja owners who gave me confidence on the low end torque. they said ninja 250 is fun in traffic too, not a thing to worry about, and needn't be revved too hard or gears needn't be shifted frequently in city. so can you please elaborate on your point bro?.

It's just a matter of time (between tvm probiking and mlore/blore probiking depending on my job offer) in booking mine. So, any practicality issues I need to re-think with?

I am in the same dilema on CBR or Ninja - though ninja is way too high cost. I had a chance to drive the CBR today for a small stint and felt that there are lot of issues that needed to be sorted. The brakes were making lot of noise and even though the bike was an ABS version, I felt the brakes were not that adequate and with the metal noise that they were making was seriously a no no for me.

Is ninja available for Test drive ??

Ninja - definitely worth every penny , value for money - no doubt (even though we are paying the mark up/import duty on the ckd kits). We are getting a bike of International standards and doesn't come with a "made in india" tag.

If that's the doubt Ninja any day.

Practical use - city rides, traffic and the corresponding heating/overheating in summer, does it need to be revved too much? etc are what concerns me.

CBR250R, which is being sold in USA, EU, and other countries are being manufacturer in India or Thai, do they all(US, EU citizens) think that this is Indian product and is crap?

We all know, being twin N250 is better but everyone have their own preferences.

And BTW, When firing a bullet/arrow/word, we must be cautious, because these can't be returned once shot. Don't want to argue, just a suggestion to you.
