  • CB Twister or Disco 100 or Disco 125!!!

    Dear all,

im looking at purchasing one of the above. i travel about 150 kms everyday, hence gas mileage is a concern. plus i do weekend-ride a lot. have been an enfield rider for 10 years! but stepping down due to the bad economy!!

Anyway, one of these which give me respectable mileage, and a decent punch for the highway. i'm normally used to riding at a constant speed of 80-90 for a continuous hour. plus after sales and part availability is also a concern!
    Suggestions???

running a 100 cc bike at 80+ continuously is a bit too much and will stress the engine a lot.

    Discover 125 fits the bill.

If you ride at a constant speed of 60-70 kph, Twister is a good bike from Honda. But if want maximum mileage, go for Discover 100.
But if you want to cruise at speeds of 80-100, your best bet would be a Discover 150 or Unicorn or Suzuki GS150R all of them offer very good mileage when cruising around 70-80.

I guess discover 125 is cheaper than Twister, but in every other department, the twister is better except spare parts availability and pricing. Twister will give a mileage of 60 minimum in city and higher on the highway but the bike doesn't feel relaxed when cruising at speeds of 80+. If you are willing to ride at speeds of 60kph, the you can blindly go for the twister.

Then how about Honda Shine? It seems perfect for what you are looking for..
But I still prefer you go for the discover100 with 5gears and fully loaded with disc brakes, change those flimsy tyres for better ones and its good as horse. But at speeds of 80+ none of these bike give you more than 45kmpl mileage! You need to cruise below 60kmph to get mileage of what you are expecting! In which case the twister is good, but its chain sprockets and engine oil leakage is frequent issue as per what I read from the ownership review of the twister bike. I feel discover100 saves a lot of money and is at par to the CBTwister standards.
There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. So ride safe when you are treading uncharted roads.

Do you realize you are talking about Discover 100 cc & disc brakes in the same sentence , it doesn't come even as an option on Disco 100cc.

TS, it's better if you look at bikes like P135LS/P150/GS150R/Dazzler as you are looking at cruising speeds of 80-90kmph. Even though Twister/Discover cost less, but if you run them at 80-90kmph speeds they will end up giving lesser mileage than a P135LS/GS150R simply because they are not tuned to that type of performance. Discover 150 is also good option, but I doubt if it can be as comfortable as a P135LS/P150 at 90kmph, coz it generates max torque at much lower rpms, especially when compared to P135LS, which is lot of fun at those speeds, engine just loves to be revved.

As sunilg pointed out you can look at the 125cc segment rather than the 100cc. Something like a Honda Shine/Stunner, Yamaha Gladiator will fit the bill easily if you can sacrifice on about 5-6kms of mileage per liter. That means you should be able to cruise easily on them without the engine feeling stressed plus get a mileage of about 55kmpl.

                    Yamaha Crux--The Legend.

My cousin have this bike and undoubtely its a legend in 100cc category. Nothing can beat this motorcycle at this price range. It is comfortable upto 70, handling is light and zippy but planted and well balanced. Its dead cheap when it comes to maintenance.

Bro, please refrain from suggesting Shine/Stunner just because they are good only when they are in city limits assuming that you can't cross 60kmph in city. For that matter if anyone is looking at 60+ speeds often then please drop Shine/Stunner without second thought. Above 60kmph, these bikes literally become vibrators on wheels, trust me it's that bad with these bikes. Gladiator, whic is SS125 now, is an excellent bike, but sadly Yamaha didn't push it hard.
