    Help me in this not so common problem before buying.. :(

    Budget : 75-82/3ish K

    Height : 6ft1in Build : between Lean and Medium

    Looking for a good 150cc+ bike

    Will be using the bike for 5+ years
    KMs travelled everyday : 20-25kms, will increase after a year! Accompanied by a pillion occasionally, a regular pillion will be comfortable in most bikes today, but my mom won't be in her Saree.. :P

    I have no specific preference to any brands, but want to stay away from Hondas due to their problems with bad after sales services and also costly and unavailable spares.

    I had completely made up my mind about the Pulsar 180, but from what I have read there is a problem with its parts after 2years of usage, many people report that.
    Is it true..??? Plus the looks, especially the headlamps are pretty outdated and also the technology is old. So why buy a 2007/8 engine now in 2012..??

    Yesterday I got a hand at my friend's Pulsar135LS, that bike, putting aside the performance, it looked awesome, I had not noticed it that much before but all the parts, the headlamps, indicators, silencer, tail lights screamed of a shiny, brand spanking new design. Even the engine is a 4valve from what I have heard. And its the first next generation pulsar even before P200ns, its even more durable that last generation pulsars

    That made me ponder over my decision again, thinking I will be paying 10k extra for a bike pretty outdated in looks and technology. But when i look over at 135ls, I see an underpowered beautiful machine with very slim profile(i like the rear tyres and the bike to be muscular) I havent tested the P180 yet, my first love was P180. Going to the showroom, breathing life into that beauty, listening to her, made me fall into love with her in the first place, but when i saw my friend's 135LS, my heart just broke apart!!

    What should I do..??
    Is it really that bad to buy a P180 in 2012, which people say wont suffice me for 5+ years. Plus I had to bear with the 'oh so common' remarks. I am just confused, right now.. Open to all suggestions to my dilemma.
    Its going to be a ONE TIME INVESTMENT my conditions won't allow me a change for the next 5-6years atleast. Anything else, anyone waiting in her showroom for me...??

    I will be going to the showrooms tomorrow, in Jaipur. My dad will be with me, he wont help, has left the choice on me, but he wont let me go reckless on figures such as mileage, i need atleast 40+

    PS : I know its a long and stupid problem, but I have no experience whatsoever in buying a bike, or a vehicle for that matter. So please help this guy who wants his money to be well invested.

      You would get 40kmpl+ on P180 I guess. About other things P180 ownership thread will help you better.

        try p135,it is not underpowered.there is cbz and hunk too,have a look at them.
        and the question remains why do i race?

          Hello sir,

          Since you are talking about a ONE TIME INVESTMENT, the bike must be a very reliable one and most importantly the spares should be available even after 5 yrs.

          Honda bikes are pretty reliable but like you said there are a few issues like spares, waiting period etc. But still I feel you should consider them. The unicorn is still a good bike and will offer good pillion comfort. Mileage 50+. Definitely under your budget.

          Stay away from P135. Nothing against the bike but it doesn't suit your need. Its purely a street bike and is better with the rider alone. Pillion seat is not good. P180 can be an option. Its got power, mileage(40+) and spares won't be problem with bajaj. The pillion seat is mediocre. And the technology is not outdated. The bike looks outdated because we have too many of them around(150 also looks the same). The bike has very nice and modern features for its price, in fact a better bang for money than the 150.

          Suzuki GS150R is another option. Very comfortable commuter bike with comfy pillion seat. But again service has been an issue in certain parts. Also suzuki's fate is still unknown. But again when suzuki has sold so many GS' I doubt the unavailability of spares in future.

          If you like the Pulsar180, stick to it. Don't worry about the issues people say. They may be true but it all again depends on the maintenance. Take a test ride also as a pillion and let your brain and heart decide(the former taking more authority).

            GS150 is the best in this segment. Unfortunately, you will have to depend on the service center for all spares.

            Contrary to popular opinion, Bajajs are VFM bikes. My Caliber has run 1.2L in 9years of ownership.

            Hunk is a good bike too and it uses the Unicorn engine. I test rode the Achiever few weeks ago and that was also good.

            To summarize:
            1. Go for P180 if your mind is set on it. Spares available all over and any friendly neighborhood mechanic can keep it going.
            2. Test drive the Hero bikes and choose from them
            3. If Suzuki is nearby and you are ready to stick with it, go for GS150
            Better late by 30 minutes than early by 30 years.

              One thing is for sure, Bajaj bike won't be lasting well for 5+ years, neither will TVS.

              Get Hero , Honda or Suzuki for a bike having good life over 5+ yrs.

              Well for comfortable highway driving, i would recommend you HH Hunk(which i also own) or maybe you can try Suzuki 150(I don't know 4 sure). HH hunk has comfortable seat(though only two can sit and not three) and Honda engine(which i'm having in 2008 Hunk having brilliant engine, not sure about the performance of the new HeroMoto Corp engine). Rule out CBZ n Unicorn if you prefer comfort over style.

              Mileage - Hunk - 40 kmph (even 45+ kmph if you can get good quality fuel from a good ptrol pump) + avoid the temptation of XtraMile, Speed etc. + Gulf 10W30 Engine Oil

                @threadstarter: if you really love p180, then go for it. Your love will make it live for more than 5 years. Else don't, 'cause it's gonna be discontinued soon and get yourself a p135.

                  Bold part- You want it to accommodate 3 people ?

                  Either way the Japs for reliability but even so, it all depends on maintenance. Stick to the 150s, choices are aplenty like they've mentioned here, it will suit your needs

                    Here we are talking about reliability. Pulsars do last long but give lots of vibrations and service issues which are not there in hero or honda. I've driven many of my friend Pulsars n they are not happy with'em coz of issues like increased vibrations, degrading handling as it gets old, spinal cord pain.

                      Do you happen to own a 2007 Pulsar? Or is this all hearsay?

                      The best bike for 3-up is the Boxer 150. Good torque, rugged build, good FE, Cheap price (if you can live with the Classic Boxer looks ). Believe me, that bike was actually designed with triple seat riding in mind.
                      Advice is a form of nostalgia.
                      Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

                        first of all, your friends aren't happy with it because they don't maintain it well. And "decreasing handling"? Hearing it for the first time. About spinal cord, it doesn't start when bike gets old, it starts when people get old.

                          if i were you...i would wait another month or so and take 200ns by "investing another 10k"
                          since you have mentioned it is one time investment and you need the bike for atleast 5 years...200ns fits in perfectly for you...it looks solid...and can return around 40 to 45 under mixed driving conditions...(as per bajaj claims)
                          it can b d best bike you can get...d most powerful in tis segment as well as durable,good fe and obviously good looks...(subjeective though...but atleast for next 1 year everyone will be like look its 200ns!!)
                          that would be worth those extra 10 k...believe me

                            @TS, don't fall for that "Pulsars give up after 2 years or give lot of problems after 2 years". It's a myth and 99% of the time you hear that from a person who doesn't own a Pulsar!! Trust me on that, I heard this from all Honda owners when I bought P135LS. It's a good bike, take a test drive of it. At that price no other bike offers the performance/mileage combo that P135LS offers. May be you can wait and take a look at 200NS, before going ahead with your buy.
