  • Looking for a Bike for my Dad

    Hi
I'm planning to gift a bike to my dad on his 25th Anniversary.
He currently rides a Platina & is pretty happy with it. But I want him to upgrade.
    I have a budget of around 60k [+/-5k]
The bikes which I have looked at so far are:

    1. Honda CB Twister 110cc,9bhp On-road: Rs.56010 (self, drum)
    2. Bajaj Discover 125cc, 11bhp On-road: Rs. 55400 (self, drum)
& if I strech my budget:
    3. Bajaj Pulsar 135 13.5bhp On-road: Rs.66000

The prime concern would be road-grip, Riding comfort & of course Mileage.
The bike should also be hassle free or low on maintainence.

I would have happily gone for Discover 125 but my brother had a very bad experience with his Discover 100cc. The piston broke & was stuck into the cylinder. So now, I'm concerned about reliability of Discovers.

    Thanks in advance for help.

Undoubtedly Discover buddy. Your Paa will be definitely happy. Trust me...

BTW, you want to gift your DAD on his anniversary. Loud applause for this though...

One bad example doesn't mean whole generation is bad. Aam ki peti me ek aam kharab nikla to puri peti fek doge kya?
It's just a machine which went bad. it happens. But remember it's a proven best commuter *at least for me*.

Hmm.. I have a inclination towards Discover too but after what happened to my bro's bike & what all bad mouthed words he used for Discovers, I'm quite skeptical about it..

On the other hand, the Hondas are known for their reliability..

Do you mean to say Hondas don't break down !?
If you keep it well, any bike will serve you with it's best. And if you don't, you know what happened with your friend. Even japs (honda / yamaha) will also behave the same.

I would say stretch your budget a little more and go for the CB Unicorn. And it is low on maintainence and hassle free, very comfortable and would return 50km/ltr .
Wish Happy Anniversary to your parents on my behalf too

Thanx man... Unicorn is a great bike but at about 72k it'll be quite out of my budget.

My dad's age is 57. He is a Government doctor & has to travel about 30kms daily, in which about 10kms on not so good Rural roads. So comfort also needs to be taken care.

Look no further than a Splendour- light, runs rugged and economical too.

Hi, I would suggest Discover 150 just because you are considering P135LS. Coz, P135LS is more youthful doesn't suit your Dad, besides he will have to keep it revving to make it behave well(read lots of wrist action), which is natural to youth!! Discover 150 will be much easier to ride coz it has lots of initial torque, it also weighs more or less same as Discover 125.

have a look at glamour or shine, and if your dad is young by heart and mind then p135 it is.
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

#i have learnt to manipulate my own adrenaline and the perception of biking is different.
                          #overkill is underrated.
#how random roads may appear there is always a destination.sigpic
#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road

(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

also consider glamour fi but weight is high

Thats exactly what i wanted to suggest.
Glamour fi will be a nice choice i think. It is modern in its own way...
Its a little pricey, but i guess its worth it.
Second Option would be P135. I think its a fantastic bike, light weight, powerful, nimble and very stylish.
