  • Please help deciding between Karizma and R15

Guys my cousin is planning to buy a bike and is confused between KarizmaR (don't like ZMR looks) and Yamaha R15.

Now his argument is that Karizma is more powerful thanR15 has it has better torque 18.35NM @ 6000RPM while R15 torque is 15NM @ 7500 RPM. This instantly means Karizma has better pickup than R15. He also says that both bikes have same power i.e. 17PS. Here I tell him that R15's peak power is at 8500RPM while Karizma delivers the same power at 7000RPM thus R15 is revv friendly and powerful than Karizma.

Please tell what is the basis of saying one bike is more powerful than other?

Is Karizma Powerful than R15 or vice versa?

    Topic Approved.

    Both engines make around 17PS.
Understand one thing: In automobile industry, Power is measured at an absolute/ full potential basis for an engine, which means on "full throttle and full potential".

R15 is powerful enough, but it has lesser torque at lower revs compared to most of its competition. Karizma on the other hand is great at low end torque, due to displacement (223cc compared to 149).
Anywhere under 5-6 krpm, Karizma will be stronger.

On paper and on full throttle, R15 may have equal power as the Karizma, but its lesser weight, aerodynamics and more gears will go in its favor to win the drag or the racetrack level race.
But if you're into touring or light mood riding, than Karizma is ideal.

Handling/ Chassis/ Grip wise, R15 is great and can be leaned into corners like a sportsbike. Karizma can't be ridden that way.

It depends on your cousin's use if he needs India's best handling bike with with all latest feature up to date then R15 is a ideal choice. If he a needs a touring bike or a bike for distant commuting then Karizma is a ideal choice
      Yamaha RX100 (1993)
      Yamaha RX135 (2000)
      Bajaj Pulsar 150 (2004)
      Yamaha FZ-25 (2017)
      TVS N-Torq (2018)

Karizma will have a better "intitial pick up feel".. also it will be comfortable to ride for long hours.

The R15 rocks over the Karizma in every other aspect (fit and finish, quality, looks, handling, top end power/pickup, smoothness).. the R15 is a much superior product. There is also a huge price differential between the two. Almost around Rs.30K.

In 2012, the Karizma is honestly quite outdated and does not have the same appeal it ussed to have when it was launched or even 5 years back.

People do touring on R15 too, with not that comfortable ride position also, just because they get a chance to Rip it through highways and handling is gem with excellent braking!!

R15 has many +ve over Karizma. But what about your cousins choice here!! What he wants ?? Everybody said that R15 will have good top speed, but while lower rpms it will be over ruled by Karizma. Now your cousins take from here!! But today's R15 V2 is not at all Family Friendly!

Not Sure but R15 has higher maintenance than Karizma!! Can any one plz correct me if i am wrong???

karizma has better bottom end torque and power and feels comfortable all round the rev range....the seating is quite comfortable too..quite good for touring....r15 is a bike like no other ,most of the power is at top of rev range..like a sportsbike...the handling of r15 is way better than zma.....
if you like long tours, blindly go for zma...if you re an enthusiast go for r15, you will not regret it.....

and ,btw cost of spares of r15 is bit on higher side than zma...

how about only one stop(for susu) and going 324kms from pune to ratanagiri in 4hours sound? the r15 is dream handling machine..with everything nice in it tyres,brakes,suspension..all which are in tune nicely..

That's what i said my friend!! Any sports bike lover or R15 love rider can go though any problems just for R15. But personally i don't recommend R15 for city!!

I have done many tours on my R15 which includes Mumbai-Aurangabad 523kms only stopped for three breaks of 10-10-40min in 8hr trip. did mumbai-suart, mumbai-pune and planning for a Mumbai-Leh-Mumbai on R15. But in next 8 months i will be getting my CL350 too. So there would be a difficult decision to make which one to use and where!!! Planning a trip to mumbai-ooty-Mumbai this Nov on R15.

                  Go for ZMA....

                  it has many positives--

                  Much cheaper then R15
                  More comfortable on longer rides
                  Better for even potholed roads
Lover maintenance cost(no FI) and can be serviced anywhere
                  It has kick starter too.
                  Better Pickup in traffic speeds..

Brother First understand 1 thing. Both bikes are different . While R15 is a great machine with style and reliability ,Karisma is a proven tourer and even a city bike because of it low end torque it can pull in city traffic as well. I have ridden both the bike.. According to me from a layman's point of view.. If YOUR COUSIN want to go for style pickup handling RELIABILITY(and want to sing the song "MUR MUR KE NA DEKH MUR MUR KE" ) go for R15. And if he wants a bit of both worlds i.e city riding ,performance and touring karisma is the best option.. Even your cousin can opt for Bajaj pulsar 220 f. Its also a good tourer with oil cooling under its hood.
Now its upto you to decide...and offcourse upto your cousin

Feel free to ask if you have any other query
