  • A Unicorn or GS150R

    Hi All,

I am going to take a 150 bike (decent mileage, power, comfort). I had shortlisted it between unicorn and GS150R. I even decided on GS. But now, I am having second thoughts. I dont know whether I am going to make a decision that I regret in an year or 2 (suzukis being scarcely seen on road and availability of spareparts being an issue in the near future).

I have to take a drive of about 55km everyday. So mileage and ride comfort are a priority.

Please help me out. I am living near Ernakulam, Kerala.

If you were me, which one would you choose GS or Unicorn??

Both are good bikes, but if I were to choose one, it would be GS150R, why? it's got gizmos(digital speedo, led tail lamps) which add to looks and sixth gear for cruising that you can't get with Unicorn. I will also ask around to make sure that SVC of Suzuki in my area is good & spare parts are available with them. Of course if gizmos & sixth gear are of no interest to you, go ahead with Unicorn. It's already proven, so there is no need to worry about anything.

Even today people ride around on Suzuki Samurai and Shoguns dont they?? You can still source parts for Yezdi, RX, or Bullet which sold in thousands. So why cant you be getting part for bikes that sell in lakhs and have part design now available in CAD for easy reproduction any time in future.
Yes, its true Suzuki sells less, but it in no way means they wont provide parts or support any day in future. Rest assured, whichever bike you choose be it yamaha, honda, suzuki all their parts cost a premium and may take some time to reach from warehouse to the SVC.

Just forget about spare cost and buy a bike that you like. And if you really intend to keep some bike for a decade. Then shun all this and buy the Splendor. Just kidding.

^^ easy spare part availability is a good criteria to set when you are buying a automobile (bike or car). You don't want to leave your bike at SVC/keep at home without using since some spare is not readily available at your place. You shouldn't regret the buying decision at that point of time, thinking that had I bought Unicorn, this wouldn't have happened.

I`m using a Suzuki(SS+) for nearly one and a half years, till date the only spares used was engine oil and oil filter and BTW here in our place we don't have an authorized SVC nearby only a small Sub-dealer who keeps Advt. of super bikes in his showroom.

Paid service costs less than that of Honda, my friend who owns a shine was charge 380+ for First free service(God knows how) while max. i paid for a paid service is 400(W/o washing, i do it myself). But it will surely increase in the next as airfilter, fork oil-change, disc service etc.. is coming up.

I opted out GS because of its booking period in my place, i say GS is a better choice when compared with Uni, But the choice is yours to make

GS is great bike in his segment bro, but if the spare and service is the problem , Unicorn is not a right competitor for GS (Personal opinion), Rather to unicorn you can also take a look to dazzler mileage, comfort, power everything is same and plus point is you getting digital meter console tubeless tyres, look are also better than unicorn, it will be a good choice over the GS....
If the you find good service there you can surely go for GS...

GS 150r is a better bike than unicorn. But after it's Suzuki and other one is Honda!
Suzuki GS150r has a good reputation till now with comfort and mileage compare to other bikes in 150cc.
Regarding spare parts don't worry GS150 is running product of the Suzuki, so certain stop to it won't be advisable for Suzuki. Don't know much about the Suzuki re-sale, but unicorn has good one!! This is becuase we still are in own perception, GS is nice! See for the service center too, which one is closer to you. And in 2 yrs you mostly won't see any issue if ridden sanely! But still please go through the ownership thread for clear idea on GS!!

I would select GS150R man, though Unicorn is time proven and has a good resale value, the availablity of the 6th gear and comparitively good looks may tilt favour towards GS150R

Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight.

It was not that far on the map.

Unicorn is good but now it feels very outdated product..GS150 is a better option & if not then its as smooth & reliable as Unicorn..plus you'll get more goodies & an extra gear with it..go for GS150

I have made up my mind to take the GS. Actually it was my first choice. I kept the unicorn as a backup because some of my friends were going on about suzuki's service not being good

I decided to take the black GS, but I am not fond of the red graphics on the new black model
