1 line Answer: Pick the Duke.

1. P200NS is more comfortable than the D200.And the pillion seat is also better in the NS

2. NS is more refined than the Duke at high speeds.But if you want to feel that adrenaline rush then Duke it is for you.

3.P200NS will return more mileage even while redlining.It returned around 36-37km/lt, you can check the long term review.

If you can stretch your budget a little, have a look at CBR250

or even a CBR 150R for that matter...

Have ridden Duke for some quality kilometers and it is indeed a small rocket. though i had a cramp in my neck after riding it for 2 days. there is something not 100% right about its seating position. the strain gets on your neck the way you sit and look ahead (or may be its just me, I am 6 ft).

Get the 200 "Hottie" Duke

I have ridden both over decent distances and i see no reason why you shouldn't pick the Duke.
200NS is an allrounder - is more practical - BUT - compared to the Duke -- its boring in the city. If office and short trips are what you are looking at, the Duke will keep you grinning all the time. Also, don't be too concerned about the seat etc. Its just a matter of getting used to it. Initially, all bikes face some quality niggles and the KTM was no exception. From what i was told, somethings have been taken care of.
On the other hand, if touring(5+ day rides) or long rides with pillion is important to you - the KTM is not a good option. The choice should be between the 200NS and the CBR then - in your budget.

Friend the four criteria or points you mentioned, is the vital aspects for you INMO to choose a bike, right ??

So First(comfort) points to 200NS. Second(Refinement) points to 200NS, third(Average) points to 200NS. fourth(quality) too points to 200NS.

You have answers within your post. Duke is any time more advance bike then NS but NS is not far behind! a small difference only.
You can opt for CBR250, for pillion rides and comfort,with a better engine of 250cc.

Hi guys,thanks a bunch for all your replies.cbr 250 is way too civilised for my liking a great bike never the less.based on your feedback i have a feeling it would be duke after all,ok just as a point of reference, the engine refinement of the duke post 100 kmph is it better or comparble to say p220 ?then am all game for it.also what kind of average should i be expecting.

Duke 200 is indeed a rocket and if 70% of your journey involves commuting then it is the obvious choice...

If you are looking for more comfort with a possibility of inclusion of a pillion then Pulsar 200NS is a better bet.

However, since i have still not ridden Duke (or for that sake neither of them), so can comment on your question.
However, visually i find 200 ns much more sexy than duke. to be specific, the headlight of duke is a put off

and then again, if you dont want a bike for every day commuting purpose, and if also look to tour some times, then have a look at bajaj avenger. It looks damn sexy, and now have a 220CC engine.

for your height, i would say 200NS.. feel Duke may look small on you..

se i ride a duke so my opinion might be biased.duke is outright acceleration.and cruising is also comfotable and very relaxed on engine at abt 80.more than that exhaust just roars and you get addicted to the note.i am 6 feet 80 kgs no issues.go for duke if u would like exclusivity.hardly 5-6 dukes in my town and the new pulsars are flocking in.

Disclaimer : Duke Owner and lover's comments below so expect it to be a bit biased . Also, haven't ridden the NS as yet.. so not an expert on comparing the two.

Having owned the Duke from March 29th, 2012 ( Thursday) and having done about 3400kms on it till date here's my 2 cents on this. [ Btw, I don't remember when I took delivery of my HH Splendor, Honda Unicorn or when I got my dog 6 years back, yet I remember the Delivery date of my Duke and I am sure I won't forget it for now. ]

1) Comfort: I have done about 3 trips of 350kms in a single day. With adequate breaks you'll find it comfortable and the sheer thrill of riding it will overcompensate for everything else you face ... Pillion is not comfortable and I feel shit scared to be a pillion on my Duke when my friends ride it... So if you have a constant companion on the pillion you can chose the NS or probably look at some mods for the Pillion seat ..

2) Refinement: Duke is not refined as far as the sound or the engine stress is concerned. I have a Unicorn in which I have done about 45k kms in the last 7 years ( that's an average of 6400 kms / year.. and I have completed 3400 within 3 months, so think how much more fun I have riding the Duke) .. the unicorn is still smoother and refined engine ( just the sound and gear shifting) than the Duke. However as said before once you cross the 7k RPM mark, the Roar of the Duke will win you over. Engine Braking is not an issue, you'll get used to it over time and it's not that bad.

3) Mileage: I've been getting decent mileage figures of 38 - 42kmpl on the tank full to tank full method. I've got 25 kmpl after the first service as I was thrilled to cross 7k RPM after 1000kms. My rides are mostly office commutes with weekend long trips on the Highway or open road. Once you are over the initial excitement you'll figure out the sweet spot of the bike and that will give you constant 38 - 42kmpl ... I know people who have got 45+kmpl and all, they are much more saner riders than me

4) Quality: One of the better bikes I've seen so far. I was contemplating on the CBR 250 and R15 before the Duke.. however, I felt the Duke had amazing stuff compared to the competition. As Mountain said in the Duke ownership forum, the Upside Down Fork from WP Suspension, Trellis Frame, Aluminium Swingarm, etc are unique to the Duke. I didn't know most of this till after I got the Duke. Thanks to senior members here who share their experiences and knowledge so graciously.

I'll choose the Duke any day over the other similar bikes. The choice is yours end of the day. Please choose wisely and do update us on which bike you ended up with
