  • FZ or 200 NS

This is going to be my first bike.. and I am little too confused. I want a bike which would offer a decent mileage and have some power when throttle opened. After doing a little research, I found Yamaha FZ16 and Pulsar 200NS. I also booked a fancy number through an agent with the RTO.

Since I reside in Chennai, Pulsar 200NS will take more than a week to be delivered. I am yet to book that bike, so I would be delivered that bike after all the pre-booking deliveries are over. Budget is not a problem. I am just worried that I should not leave any stone unturned before investing on my first own bike (yes.. My own earned money!).

Please help me, if I wait for Pulsar 200NS to be launched, I will have to pay 9000 (plus 3000 for fancy number) extra (so total 12000) for fancy number or if I go for a FZ now I can get that fancy number for 3000 (total).

I would go for 200 NS no doubt, better performance, mileage, looks.I would not care for a fancy number though.

FZ is an absolute fun on the corners and city ride for its superb low end torque.. and the engine and build quality is good... this coming from a satisfied owner However, it loses its breath post 85 kmph so bit of a pain to ride on the highways due to lack of top end..

If money is not a problem then with liquid cooled engine and improved quality of Bajaj, NS200 is a better bet as it has more power so will be fun riding on the highways...It has a better pillion seat too...

Both looks good, both have good quality, both have almost equal mileage but FZ 16 is no match to NS in terms of performance.Ns can do 110-115km/h effortlessly whole day plus rider and pillion comfort in NS is better. So i suggest you to go for NS.
          I am loving my NS

Thank you all.. 200NS it is.. Even mom liked Yellow and Black 200NS ..
my travel would be a total of 80+ kms to office.. I won`t drive daily though.. but weekly twice atleast.. office drive would include 35 kms of Highway drive and 25 kms of City ride.. Apart from 200NS (although not able to let go of it!).. I am considering 150 cc bikes like pulsar 150, hero hunk, suzuki gs150r, tvs apache 160 series rtr. My needs from them apart from mileage would be low maintainence cost, long life (I might have it for even a decade ) & consistent performance.

P.S.: please don't respond like if you want quality go for this or if you want fuel efficiency go for that. I would be happy if you could give one/two word answer which is nothing but the name of any of the above mentioned bikes which quite matches my requirements. Please help.

i am a guy who sold fz to buy 200ns ... fz will keep u entertained for 1 year and after that you get bored of 14ps of power .. ns is actually more fuel efficient than fz as well .. reliability and engine life depends on how u maintain it .. i must say that fz was as reliable as my dog although i had tortured it for 2.5 years .. i had run it for 47000kms ( only city rides ) and i had got it serviced only thrice during its full 47000kms .. first service at 500kms , second service at 27000kms and third service just before selling it ... the buyers were amazed to see the engine health of my fz while buying ( it sounded same as the new fz in showroom ) ..
lesser displacement doesnt mean more fuel efficiency .. it depends on how u r going to ride it .. a lot of tech has been put into ns and it is the bike to have in 2012 ..

Is this a question you are still unsure about??? FZ is hugely under power.

Fancy no. plate or special registration no.?? You know that few months from now & all of vehicles should have standard tamper proof no. plates issued from RTO, right?

Budget is not a problem, booked a fancy number already; I guess mileage wouldn't be problem either.
Not sure why someone is confused between FZ and 200NS. Confusion between the baby Duke and 200NS makes sense but

I believe you've never ridden a Karizma Jokes apart. The FZ kicks ass in mid end torque. Its a signature, in a Drag the ZMA will kick its ass, in a top speed run a P220 will kick its ass, but during roll on, oh! thats where the bike kicks ass. My closest friend owns a Fazer16 and even with the added weight comparing the FZ, he beats me in roll on acceleration. A perfect VFM bike when it comes to city riding, seriously no bike pulls in final gear at crawling speeds like the FZ. But it has to be treated with the utmost care during run in else you're screwed, I've known FZ people with 54Kmpl mileage and 50k+ kms on odo with stock piston rings and FZ people with 30Kmpl mileage with piston rings going kaput at 6k kms.

Actually I have ridden a ZMA ... Anyways to the thread starter.. If you want a plain answer then Pulsar 200. Normally all bike related queries are based on what you like and utalitarian purpose behind the purchase... However since, you don't want any of these to be there as pointers then just go for the 200NS.

Hey Brother when you say budget is not a constraint then why not a CBR STD?? a very capable bike and futuristic too!! You don't need to see next 4-5yrs inline for upgrade either!! Yes you won't get that good average but nice one around 30kmpl.

Else Duke 200 anytime over NS200 or FZ. Becuase Duke is very similar to NS and over it. average is very same to both but little less then 200NS.

When you have a NS deliveries issues then why not DUKE, i guess Duke sales strategy would be normal till now, and after 200NS DUke is more likely to be sold in normal ways no on moneys !

If you can live with 30kmpl then CBR, your dbudget will increase by 40k but a very nice bike.

If you want average around 40kmpl then DUKE, if little more than this then only NS200.
