    at a budget of 60K

    Hi,

    I am from Kolkata and now in Bhubaneswar. Looking to get my first bike.
    My budget is 60-65K.
    After searching in xbhp, I have shortlisted Yamaha SS 125.
    Now the compitition was between the Yamaha and the baby Pulsar.
    However, being not a Bajaj fan, I finalised Yamaha.

    But just now saw the Hero Achiever priced at 62K on-road here.
    I do not find many reviews online for this one and noone in my friend circle having this bike.
    Now is it a good choice compared to Yamaha SS125?
    So, it is upto you guys to help me decide which one is better in terms of reliability, mileage (above 50 in city will be ok for me) and handling.
    Please enlighten me and help me to pick one.

      Not sure why Hero keeps Achiever in production, it's a bike that is seen very rarely on roads, so no wonder then you won't find much information on that bike even here. It may be good idea to stay away from such market duds, as you might face problem with spares. Apparently it's based on the same old Unicorn's engine. You can take a look at Discover 125ST as well.

        Achiever is off the list now.
        About Discover ST, it is relatively new and I dont want a product just going by its specs.
        Yes it is good, but I would like to see how it performs for atleast 6 months.
        And I do not have that much time.

          Achiever may have been a dud in the market but it was because of circumstances then and has nothing to do with its quality.

          From what I found out, Achiever shares Hero Honda Ambition's body, and has Honda CB Unicorn's engine, Alloy Wheels, Front Disc Brake and Self Start. Not bad for a bike priced at 62k.

          Its in my shortlist too (I have similar Budget) so will test ride it sometime, so will let you know how it actually feels
          Currently without a vehicle. Uber App and Bangalore Metro serving all my travel needs.

            Little confused now.
            For me easily availability of spares is important along with reliability.
            Now. on paper, Achiever should be reliable.
            But spares availability can be an issue.
            Also, can some one point me a review somewhere?

              AFAIK Achevier is not at a bad option the only thing is people went with what they say i.e CBZ/Hunk or Unicorn. It's a nice choice all indeed, 150cc power is well enough of city and some tours on weekend too. Where as any 125 or 100 cc will surely give a thought that "if this would hav been a 150cc".

              If meliage is the major concern then 100/125cc will be the only option and if 45-55kmpl is ok then go for Achiever!!
              It would surely give approx 45-50kmpl in city and 55kmpl+/- on highways!!

              But and it's in production from long time, so don't worry!! After Hero Backing is there!! maintenance won't be much and lighter on pocket too. 62k for 150cc is nice, see SZr too it too would be in same range!

                dude i too live in bbsr and own an ss125 since 2008.....overall ss125 is a great bike .... i must say it is very reliable and has not broken down once ....but the initial pickup of the bike is not good and it feels powerful only when revved hard(>5000rpm)...it requires frequent gear changes in city...other than that it is simply aweesoome...


                why dont you consider hero ignitor into your shortlist...

                  ^^ @Somen it might be in production from a long time, but you wouldn't find it readily available in any showroom. Please check near by Hero Moto corp show room to confirm it. They are keeping it in website for namesake. I will surely advise against it. But if there is some piece left in showroom from long time, you can certainly bargain for it and get it at a low price i.e. you can get a pretty good discount. That's exactly the reason why I wouldn't recommend it. It's not worth the trouble if you need spares. Instead go with models that are selling in decent numbers.

                    I also know that the SS125 is a great bike.
                    About the honda clone Ignitor - I am not a fairing fan. And the Ignitor as well as Stunner looks ugly, IMO. Also it is overpriced when compared to the best bike of the segment, SS125.
                    Also, in BBSR, most of the bikes are from Hero, not sure how they handle all the rush during service. So, I would like to stay away unless it is too good. Achiever caught my eyes as it has a Unicorn mill, looks ok and cheap - like Discover.
                    However, I do not see this bike much on road, just like SS125.
                    And that is a concern (Maybe I like bikes that are rarely seen on road )

                        Guys, deadline is approaching.
                        Need to decide fast.
                        Confused between SS 125, Fz and Slingshot+.
                        Yamaha has low pickup but a good reliable bike overall.
                        Suzuki has better pick up but not so good top end as Yamaha.
                        I never liked the way Slingshot+ looks but seems its a better option compared to SS125 as I will be mostly driving in city.
                        Fz is almost ruled out as it is way out of my budget.

                        So, between SS125 and Slingshot+, for a rookie, which one is better?

                          ss 125 is better, consider pulsar 135 as an option
                          and the question remains why do i race?

                            If reliability and uniqueness(relatively) are your top priorities then ss125 is perfect.I really will go for it.Infact i was fixed on gladiator before getting discover135(my father wanted this,but i am happy with power).

                            If power is your criteria go for p135-AFAIK its a rev happy engine.May be you can go for discover125st(bajaj is quite serious about their products and discover brand is associated with reliability in bajaj family).

                            You can't even go wrong with acheiver.Its a proven mill, but the only grouse is we don't know when hero will discontinue it.

                            Take a test ride and decide.
                            You cant go wrong with any of these.Also mileage don't vary more than 10kmpl between these.
                            It all matters what steals your heart.
                            Whenever i see bikes or cars i see adrenalin pumps instead of people carriers.Thats the way to define an automobile.

                              I am not interested in a Bajaj. They have improved but still there is a mental block somewhere saying not to go for a Bajaj.
                              Just a little confusion as SS125 requires higher amount of gear changes in city and I will mostly be travelling in city. But most probably will get this Yammy
