Edit: If you want something very different from the run of the mill Japanese Scooters, but not something which costs 70k, please wait for the Piaggio Fly 125 which is scheduled to be launched later this year around Diwali.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Frankly I was looking forward to buy Vespa despite my Activa had run only 18K in 7+ years regardless of the price.

What disappointed me with the current offering of Vespa was...
        - Lack of wide spread ASC
        - Lack of fuel injection
        - Expected a 60/55 halogen
        - Fuel fill at the front or rear without having to open up the seats

With the above & tire sizes, clock, 8 litre, 10 PS engine, auto return side stand & even the drum brakes, I would've gladly paid that money, though I'm apprehensive with the chrome & Chennai weather, it's still go ahead for me.

But the 1st 2 factors were a big let down & hence that forced me to retain my Activa for some more time.

There are only 2 scooters which appeal to me, both made by Indian companies but not sold in India. Vespa LX125 is NOT one of them. They are TVS Tormax 150 and the LML Star 200 4t.

Well if you want to own something that cute, you got to pay the price. Worthy or not depends on how you see it & what you want from your scoot. If it's functionality & commuting that you are after Activa or Wego will do just fine. Vespa is positioned as a lifestyle product, in a way it can be used as a status symbol with it's current pricing.

P.S. If you are buying it for your sister/wife, then let it be Vespa, most ladies will opt for vespa without batting an eyelid

I don't know about others, but I'd prefer walking, or driving a bubblegum pink colored Zen Estillo with hello kitty stickers all over it to showing my "status" riding around in a scooter like that. Eeek!

I'm planning to teach my sister how to ride a bike. Hope it goes well
Or maybe TVS will launch their step-throughs in India before her Wego dies.

I bought one for the wife, A LX150 model. (We live in Saigon Vietnam) but had to make sure it was the Italian made ones, The new ones are made in Vietnam...Poor quality control makes them a poor cousin to their italian made ones.

Vespas have always been a full steel body scooter, No plastic on these.
They are for the urban young fashionable types, though we have (and numerous others) have taken these touring without many problems.

Like it or not they have a cult following worldwide, It doesn't matter if you make fun of them, for every one of us (making fun of the Vespa) theres another 5 people who love them.

There is plenty of room under the seat for storage, also the front compartment has some space behind the flap. Easy to ride and actually stable at lowspeed and maneuverable (if you can have both) they are actually a fun ride.

dont know if such a thing can happen but since it is a complete single steel body rusting issues in monsoon or perhaps when cleaning vehicle with a wet cloth and water left at certain places might be a trouble

Well, different people, different opinions. But you do realize that this is one of the very few two wheelers that's recognized world over and has fan following, that is quite an achievement for a scooter. I would any day prefer a Vespa over a Zen Estilo irrespective of hello kitty stickers/pink color.

That's a good point, rust issues crop up very regularly in Acitva/Aviator models. Not good for places with abundant rain, thankfully in India we don't have many such places!

The first 2-wheeler I have memories of sitting on is a blue Vespa 100XE and I love the iconic Vespa PX 150 and among modern scooters the Vespa GTV and the Piaggio MP3 but the LX sold in India is nowhere as inspiring as the legendary PX. It looks like a college girl's scooter.

I agree it has a fan following, but simply the existence of a large fan following is no reason (again strictly my opinion) to blindly buy a scooter.

But as you said, different people, different opinions.

the vespa is in a league of its own....cute styling (a bit girly)...it is an internationally acclaimed brand....unlike any scooter it has many clubs and a huge fan base....definitely worth the money...

another option is yamaha RAY 125 which will be launched this diwali...

Wasn't citing fan following as a reason to buy Vespa and fan following doesn't come blindly unless the product got few things right. Was just asking you to imagine how tough it is for a scooter to achieve icon status. A zen estilo in pink color or in any color can't stand anywhere near Vespa as far as design is concerned.

Anyways, TS has decided to buy Vespa, guess it's time to close the thread.
