  • Glamour or Discover 125?

    Hi guys, need help again. I used to ride 150cc all the time but this time I want to go for 125cc. My last bike was Hunk. My main reason will be for city ride. Need good comfort and good handling. I'm 6 feet and 80 kg.
    My choices are Bajaj Discover 125 (ST isn't available in BD) and Hero Glamour. I've never ridden 125cc bikes so have no ideas about these.
    So please add some advantages and disadvantages on both bikes and add also your opinions.
    I've another question; should I stick with 150cc compare to 125cc?

    Thanks,
    Adnan.

    Advice is a form of nostalgia.
    Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

      If this change is for mileage then 125cc any given day!! But if you think to change for city rides then why not a 150cc??
      And "Last bike" means?? Have you sold the old hunk?? or currently you own it?? Once ridden 150cc won't enjoy 125cc. But Discover 125cc is good tech and features bike.

        Please specify why you want a 125 bike for city ride mileage? or lesser weight? or price? or anything else..
        my Cousin has a Glamour carbed version, here is what i think about it.
        Good initial pick-up.
        Disc break has good bite
        Bike very responsive to throttle till 70kph but after that vibration starts, especially at the tail end.
        Gear shifts are harder especially when shifting from first to second(maybe its because his bike is new (odo about 5000))
        i hate its engine sound(personal)
        Mileage=65(As he says)(PGMfi might give a +5kmpl mileage)
        Handling is average.

        When i was looking for a bike 1 1/2 years ago,Glamour pgmfi had a booking of 6+months (One of the reasons which made me buy a Slingshot which i regret now)

        Don't know about Discover.Anyway chose well and enjoy riding.

        BTW a general statement about 125cc is that "mileage of a 150cc coupled with performance of a 100cc"

          Yamaha SS125 is a better buy anyday. Checkout this bike if you are getting a 125cc one and 125ST is not available.

            Thanks guys.
            The change isn't for mileage. Actually I'm little bit crazy about bikes. I had all the valid available bikes from 150cc segment in BD. Even I had R15. I've sold my Hunk (double disks) few days ago. Actually I want to buy the Impulse or new Apache but these two aren't gonna show in bd soon and nobody knows when. Every models from 150cc segment; I bought twice or even more… (I told you I'm crazy about bikes :P) So this time I want to go for something new that I didn't have.

            In Dhaka; traffic is horrible. It is bumper to bumper all the time. Actually 150cc's bike aren't help to anything except burn more fuel in city. The price gap from 125 segment to 150 segment is 50/60 thousand taka. It is huge so I think this time if I go for 125cc then I'll save money too.

            The glamour only find here is carbed one. I like the Glamour's look and digital console but Discover has DC Headlight which is great to have.

            My main concern about:
            * Initial Pick-up.
            * Comfort.
            * Handling.
            * Smoothness.
            * Breaking.

            I know Glamour has 4 gears while Discover has 5. I think with 5 gear it should more smooth on high speed. But this time, I don't want to buy because of what I think, so that's why I'm asking your opinions from your experience.

            I'll look SS125.

              I find it funny when people with R15 and 220 give a suggestion!!!
              I have kept Discover, Gladiator, Glamour, Shine, Stunner, Splendor for year, and have ridden more than 3.5L kms!

                but why do you need a 125CC.

                i think you should take a pause and think...
                • why do you keep changing bikes, so often, isn't it a waste of money
                • if you have plenty of money, why not climb the ladder, rather than going down on CC.
                • your profile says something like-"ride extreme, live extreme"... believe me there is nothing extreme in 125CC bikes, neither mileage extreme, nor power extreme.

                out of all 125CC bikes, i will suggest glamour or stunner.

                @L.P.: what is funny in R15 & 220 owners giving advise..??

                  ...lol.... Do you mean higher CC bike owners can't suggest on <150cc or they ain't sensible sounding??
                  This will be the funniest statement till now!!
                  If a 220 owner is giving suggestion than that doesn't means that he is not knowlegable or sensible in suggestions.

                  Now it's very clear that you are looking for mileage!! In city rides 125cc are more than enough to commute, but once ridding 150cc and going for less then 150cc will effect you in all sense.
                  If Discover is not available then can you wait for it?? Becuase it's indeed a nice bike to have.
                  Else you have many options in market.
                  I would suggest you to go with Discover 125ST else Yamaha's product or Passion/Splendour, best re-sale and average.

                    once driven a 150 cc bike ,125 will feel very underpowered and booring..

                    hero glamour: feels underpowered and might not suit you with your height..handling is okay but grt fuel efficiency..

                    since disco 125st aint available in BD, you might consider stunner/ignitor and yamaha gladiator

                    stunner has good initial pickup and grt handling ..it offers gud fuel economy and since you are tall it might suit you well ...but the bike vibrates a bit at higher revs...

                    yamaha gladiator has poor initial pickup but has good power at higher revs...
                    has grt handling but not good for city bcoz it needs more gearshifts in city..

                    i would recommend you go for the stunner/ignitor if you wanna buy 125 cc else stick to 150

                      you can opt for pulsar 135,you won't be losing out anything over hunk,may be you can gain more.
                      and the question remains why do i race?
                      every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

                      #i have learnt to manipulate my own adrenaline and the perception of biking is different.
                      #overkill is underrated.
                      #how random roads may appear there is always a destination.sigpic
                      #i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road

                      (:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

                        Thanks L.P. Is gladiator become SS125? Isn't it? I'll check the bike and price. I'm starting to like SS125 . For unknown reason, I don't like the Stunner look and New Discover is out of league because of not available right now and won't soon. You've been riding lots of 125cc bikes. Which one best according to your experience?

                        Thanks princesirohi. Reasons to think about 125cc:
                        The all bikes from 150cc in BD market; I have had more than once and I don't want to buy those again until some new models come. I think If I go for 125cc right now then I'll save huge money (50K) and 1/1.5 years later I can easily go for some totally new model from 150cc segment.
                        I normally sell my bike when it has problem and couldn't fix that. Sometimes for accident... I sell old one add 20/30K and buy new one. I do take care my bike than myself, so usually I get highest resell value. Even sometime as same as show-room price. Lately I'm understanding that it is nothing except wast of money. I don't have plenty of money but I always try to climb the ladder but more than 155cc bikes aren't allow in Bangladesh legally.
                        Glamour is my top choice and second is SS125/Discover. Hope I'll select the best one of these three.

                        Thanks bro, my main reason isn't about mileage but it is nice to have good mileage because nowadays fuel isn't cheap anymore. I'm sure Discover won't show here next 6 months minimum as Bajaj/importer policy for BD. In BD, Hero Honda and Bajaj have more re-sale value than Yamaha . And Yamaha's pricing policy is worst in the world in BD. For example; R15 cost almost US $6250, Fazer cost US $3750 right now; where pulsar/cbzx/hunk can find within US $2750 right now (80taka=US$1).

                          If Bajaj and Hero has more better options in your BD then why not Hero Ignitor, very same to Stunner, but less costly then it. It's Huge and suitable for your height, TD and see.
                          The only options you have are:
                          1. Ignitor
