  • Confusion over Bike / Scooter

    Hi Friends,

I am new to this forum. I need your advice on following:

    (1) I have a TVS Victor Bike (9 years old) which is for some time now causing trouble in cold and wet weather, it starts with difficulty and then stops several times before it gets warm. I am planning to purchase a new two wheeler and am confused whether to purchase bike or scooter and which brand/product. My requirements are as under:

    a) Budget - not more than Rs.50000
    b) Fuel Economy
    c) Reliable, Less maintenance

    (2) My father has a TVS Scooty (about 7 years old) which is asking for lots of maintenance these days and eats a lots of fuel. I have to purchase a new scooter for him, the requirements are:

    a) Budget - not more than Rs.40000
    b) Fuel Economy
    c) Reliable, Less maintenance
    d) Good Storage space

I will be thankful for your advice.

    Thanks

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

boxer 150 fits your bill, but i am not sure about a scooter around 40 k rs.
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

#i have learnt to manipulate my own adrenaline and the perception of biking is different.
      #overkill is underrated.
#how random roads may appear there is always a destination.sigpic
#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road

(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

Discover 100cc would be satisfying for your needs. You also have Suzuki Hayate if Suzuki's service is satisfactorily available in your area.

And for scooter, there are not many choices. Have a look at Hero Maestro if you can extend budget upto 45k.
If you ride like there's no tomorrow, there won't be.

Sorry my friend, but you are wrong on the bold bit. Even in Bangalore, the most expensive city of them all, Boxer BM150 costs <50k OTR.

@P.T. You could try the TVS Wego(Which basically has the utterly efficient Victor engine) or the Mahindra Duro DZ(which now comes with Stop-Start tech for much improved FE). These will be the closest ones to 40k. The rest are more expensive.

You mean WEGO or Duro DZ comes "CLOSE" to 40K?

TVS Authorised Dealers to buy TVS WEGO - Contact for Price, Purchase and Service Details - Best Customer Service by TVS Motor says Rs 46811 in Maharashtra in Pune

Duro DZ: New Mahindra Scooter Duro DZ, Scooter of the Year 2011 in ********, Get Powerful 125cc Duro DZ Price, Features, Test Ride & Specifications, It's Solid says Rs 46645 in Maharashtra in Pune

Even in Delhi the price is Rs 46195 for Wego & Rs 44779 for Duro DZ

All prices are Ex Showroom which means they only get farther than 40K!!!

And the "REST" is only Activa which is Rs 47945 Ex showroom again or the Maestro which is Rs 50183, unless you meant the Scooty Pep which is Rs 38840 or the Streak Rs 40475 Ex Showroom

First of all, by closest to 40k, I really mean closest to 40k. eg. If 3 products are sold at 48k, 53k and 51k, which of them is 'Closest' to 40k?

By rest, I meant rest of the 97cc+ scooters. Scooty Pep/Streak is distinctly targeted at the fairer sex which his father is obviously not . His father might have been using the Scooty for the last 7 years but the branding and promotion is more female centric these days as compared to the case 7-10 years back.

Edit: There is one more remaining: the Mahindra Kine (Rs.33,331/- Ex Showroom Pune), but it is such a fringe player that I am yet to see one on the road. (Rodeo and Duro are much more commonly spotted)

Thats what they do when they either want to sell something else or don't know for sure. While you asked a sales rep, I asked an owner. The OTR price for him in Pune was under 46k.

Either say clearly the amount or don't talk in terms of close, far, near!!! In proper English, 39K is close to 40K; even 41K is not close to 40K, it's called a little over 40K.

Go back to your original post & see what you recommended & now what you're saying!!! You said Duro DZ & now your link is pointing to Kine. Obviously both are two different products & the price varies.

Pls...don't argue for the sake of it!!!

                    On a lighter tone...

If you need an English lesson, I would recommend Wren and Martin. For the rest of it, I needn't reply because I already made my point.

Naah, its Closest to 40k compared to the rest of the 150cc competition.

No no...I'm quite confident about my vocabulary skills in English, I'll stop before I forget anything further so as the TS wouldn't be even more confused

No, you absolutely don't have to; most of them here are aware on your points we don't have to stress like an engine do we

Thanks all of you for your replies.

From the replies I could understand that if my other conditions are to be met I have to increase the budget. If my other conditions remain same for bike i.e. less maintenance, more mileage, least expensive and for scooter i.e. less maintenance, more mileage, good storage space, least expensive (and not very heavy) then could you help me choose one out of options given below:

                          A) for bike - Discover 100, Platina, Pulser, Twister (or if any other bike is better than these)
                          B) for scooter - Dio, Swish, Rodeo, Wego (or if any other scooter is better than these)

                          Thanks

I would prefer Discover, as it's a more fresh design than Platina. and cost around 41999 +/- 3k.

I would suggest Majestro, as it's a hero product and more easily SVC through wide spread SVC.
