  • Utterly Confused..Need Help!

I am in a huge dilemma, hence my post is also huge. Bought a really stunning-looking White Fazer on January 2012 because I loved the tyre & colour, along with the looks.

I had always wanted to do extreme mods on the Fazer like rear disc brake setup,LED tail lamp,Projectors with Angel eye,Steel braided lines,Joel's FFE.
So I had some expenses in mind even before buying it.Yeah,I was kinda foolish, yet determined to make my ride stand out in looks and performance too..
    Problems:
    • Had a small kiss with an autorickshaw, which scratched my right headlamp a bit..nothing huge, but looks bad only when the HIDs are on.Cost: Rs.2500 (for the whole headlamp change)

    • the rear monoshock(steel part) has discoloured, can be claimed by warranty.

    • No matter, whatever I try,I'm not getting more than 36-38kmpl..under very sane riding.

Now,I feel that some bike, which has Rear Disc Brake,LED tail lamp, gives a better/similar mileage with a higher performance as stock would be a much better.
Fazer's seat is uncomfy for heavy pillion (Dad) after Pulsar 135's..though he drives the car quite more now.

    Hence,I am considering several scenarios...

Scenario 1: Keep the Fazer since its not even a year and wait for a 250cc from Yamaha.Love the way it looks.Just change the headlight assembly and carry on with the planned mods. Though there are chances of losing sleep over niggling issues like fitting the mods or rattling/scratching as a result of the mods.

Scenario 2: Change to Pulsar 200NS...Don't know exactly how much mileage I would be getting under sane riding, though. In my opinion,Bigger Engine for a Lesser Price philosophy

Scenario 3: The much-coveted R15 v2...Love the looks of it.Lower CCs,but greater fun at a higher price. But scared that a heavy pillion might feel uncomfy and more importantly, fall on me while hard-braking.The underbelly of the bike might get scratched too because of a heavy pillion.2 questions: What is the Price of oil filter? Kitna deti hain under sedate riding?

Kindly help me out. My priorities..
    Mileage > Looks(love fairings) > Power > Comfort.

Do I have to sit with pillion like this in R15v2?

All I can say is, don't hold your breath for the 250cc Yamaha.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

      @ antz.bin: Thanks.Even I'm thinking,the 250cc would take 2 years minimum to roll out.

Actually the first time I read the news about a Fazer 250, the calendar read August 2009

I have ridden R15 V2.0, the pillion won't fall onto you when you brake hard provided he/she knows how to sit as a pillion on such bikes, don't know how much your gf would be able to adapt :P
I had no probs with a pillion even on a sudden 70kmph to 20kmph deceleration.

Oil filter cost - Rs 167

Iam getting 44kmpl cz my daily usage is on the highway. Under city riding expect a slight drop.

No, the belly wont touch the bump.

No, thats an extreme condition where the pillion is sitting behind the rider, may be he is zooming fast. You actually sit as if you are sitting on a stool, you can balance on it pretty well once accustomed. Even under hard braking the pillion doesnt come forward unless you teach what needs to be done in such scenarios.

Power wise, yes I have done 147kmph on GPS fully crouched, this is the max and for couple of seconds... But yes you can cruise on speeds like 125-130kmph very easily. The bike is in a very different class of machines, I dont know why but its matches with my needs, (you need to figure out if this is the one for you). Please dont compare it with CBR 150 even if the segment says so, on paper and on road they might be comparable but when you swing your leg over the saddle you will know they are miles apart.

EDIT - Attaching couple of snapshots of my Stryker.

AFAIK, a fazer 250 or R25 is no where near in the calender. Otherwise @toxicbiker would be the 1st to pounce on.

As the dilema of exchanging the fazer with NS, well last night had a 50kms ride within Bumper traffic of Kolkata along with @toxicbiker. Exchanged our bikes for some time, and I can vouch that NS is no way even close to fazer in the comfort level. Also NS has very bad low end torque, and I had to change gears frequently in the bumper traffic. While Fazer is like king in the Low end.

About the mileage figures, well Fazer has a 140 sec rear tyre, and 40kmpl is the standard that you can expect. So getting 38 is not that bad.

And about R15, if u are Ok with the Pillion seat, then don't have any doubt going for it. I was so sure that i will be getting a r15, but the V2.0's seat seemed impractical to me, as a only bike in my garage. Forget mom, even Dad couldn't get on that.

@Eshan-P180 : Had seen ur pics before in the ownership thread..awesome photography.
@KrazzyKid: I need to try out TD with a heavy pillion...else,it is hard to know.
@Shibadip: Bro, I think I need a TD on ur Destiny.Again it started raining today! Love naked bikes for their practicality, specially in parking, but the switches and left-side lock only are the problems..price is too yummy for a 200cc bike.Whereas, for R15,drop-dead gorgeous looks, along with performance.
What do u guys suggest? Fix the headlamp and use it and modify it or complete a year and change the ride?

Are you sure about this one, even with 2 passengers weighing a total of 130-140kgs?

How much is that on the speedo of the R15?

No interest in CBR...I don't like it for some unknown reason.
Answers in bold. How much can I expect for my Fazer? 3300kms done, currently in the 7th month of ownership and the scratch is really not visible unless HIDs are on.

Yup, the belly wont touch the bump provided you are in correct speed, a super slow will scrape it, common you cant expect everything in the bike.

Dint get a chance to look in the speedo as i was concentrating on road ahead and it was already sending shivers in my balls at that speed.

Me neither like that bike, dont know the reason.

I do not know the market in which you stay in so cant comment about the price, but here it would be off for some 50k, now dont ask me how and why as i'm just suggesting a ball park figure.

@Eshan: I have already experienced this super slow scraping of the center-stand on my Fazer. So I'm used to it.
Another question: Rain & Mud...how muddy does it get inside the fairing parts if driven in the rain? A pic would really help...

There are many stories over this, some say R25 will be out soon, then some says 250Frazer is about to hit!! So i would say don't think on it unless it's confirm!!

                          It gives 35-45kmpl.

First and foremost R15 V2 is not at all a pillion friendly, that too for a heavy pillion it surely effect the riding and power! it's only 150cc with 17ps.

Mine is R15 V1, i get 42kmpl+ always in 70-90kmph. bike is awesome and you really feel proud to ride this.

Why i think that you don't need a different bike apart from Frazer?? Frazer gives 35-45kmpl which is very close to R15 or NS200.

I would recommend please not buy a bike now, it doesn't makes sense!! buying almost same performance bike!! wait for more 1-2 yrs so that you can see some good options coming out.

And where as your pillion ride is concern then you should think for NS200 or Karizma or P220. with average of 35-45kmpl.
But still i would say a "NO!" for any new bike now atleast!!

hey speedy, you are confusing two things.
                            1. Performance bike.
                            2. Pillion comfort.
The first choice of yours - yamaha fazer does not fit anywhere in the above conditions. Its neither a performance machine nor a pillion comforter.

But, i can suggest you one thing. Get your requirements clear. What is the speed you want to ride normally. How many kms you want run usually. How many kms you want to do with a pillion. What mileage you want from the machine. Please dont mix all these things. After you feed this data here, the hardware in helmets of many riders cant help you.
I am writing a post on mileage improvement in the fz thread.. See you there.

First of all...sad thing for the kiss...i can feel u....our roads are simply filled with dumbos...
coming to your point...even i feel for more powerfull option...like simply a biger mill but in that case apart from CBR250 I personally do not see other option for bigger mill while graduating from Yamaha..200 is cheap otion for power but u will miss the stability handling nd low end torque...and also comfort...i didnt found it overwhelming than others...220 is better inmy opinion..and if u do not want ur mom to b ur pillion then u can go for R15 V2.0 chicks love them...quite impressive power with refinement which I feel bajaj lacks...and the ultimate handling....but again y so soon? go for FFE and big bore kit bro...wait for another yearby that time u can have a news about either fazer 250 or R25 but if not u can try out cbr250 and u will be satisfied...
Heart Meets Soul when you ride...
