  • which one gives better mileage honda unicorn or SS 125?

    Hi,
    I am having following requirements:
    comfortable,
    no vibrations,
    good for long drives,
    good in highways,
    good mileage

I read reviews about SS125, which is good performer at 125 cc category, no vibrations, good for highway usage and long drives.
I want to select between unicorn and SS125 against mileage
I wanted to know the how much difference in mileage i may get if i go for unicorn. Or is it good to stay with SS125.

    My height is 5.8

    Please guide me.

Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

      Please mention your budget .

1> If you wish to use it 90% city and 10% highway go for 125cc . If its more of a highway runner i will suggest go for Unicorn .

2> Why not 125 cc for highway ..? > Because most of the time you will be riding > 80kmpr speeds . This will put more stress on 125cc engine than 150cc. like my RTR -Efi used to touch 120 @ around 10k rpm and my CBR does it @ close to 8700Rpm so my point is Engine will be in more relax mode when you ride 150cc @ 100 than riding 125cc @ 100kmpr.

Choose as per your need . But If its highway runing most of the time stay away from 125cc
Its not enough to know how to twist the throttle; you must have judgement to know when and where to do it.

The price difference between unicorn and ss125 is 15k, It is one time investment and i can invest. Main thing is Mileage, if unicorn gives same mileage as SS125 then no problem i get mileage+more power. if unicorn consume more fuel than SS125 then I go with SS125. Ineed to know how much difference in mileage between these two. I also need to know which one gives stable mileage for long time(after many years also). Also provide how much mileage usually unicorn gives and SS 125 gives USUALLY.

        Thanks And Regards,

There'll be 5 to 10 kms difference in keeping with your riding style.

My roomie had a Unicorn (he still does, but we are no longer roomies ) and inside Pune city, his bike would USUALLY return FE between 40-45kmpl. No idea about Highway FE because his bike NEVER went on the Highways.

            Seven eighths! - Overdrive

This article can help somewhat. Just so you know, Overdrive magazine is based in Pune so when they quote a city FE, it invariably means Pune city FE.

If you are open to other suggestions, please try out the Discover 125ST (125cc price, weight & FE, 150cc equipment & power)

Why don't you test ride both and decide yourself?

What Discover 125ST gives you is the extra horsepower which will aid you on those highway rides (D125ST: 13Ps vs SS125: 11Ps) By comparison, the Unicorn makes just 0.5Ps more than 125ST at 13.5Ps.

Both D125ST and Unicorn sport a monoshock rear suspension (which helps in mass centralization). The SS125 has conventional twin rear shocks.

Both D125ST and SS125 weigh *almost* the same (D125ST : 124.5kg and SS125 : 125kg) and the price difference is also just a few hundred rupees here and there. By comparison, the Unicorn weighs about 146kg (21.5kg more than 125ST) so the 0.5Ps horsepower advantage is effectively nullified.

You can read the xBHP First Impression Discover 125ST if you need more info.

                  Lokesh,
I had both the bikes for extended period. I will vote for Unicorn and it is complete bike for all purpose city, highway, with pillion, mileage, power, seat comfort etc.
As for as mileage Unicorn gave me more(55kmpl) than SS125(50kmpl) for my riding style(avge speed 60 kmph).
SS125 suffering from pathetic low end torque, so you have to rev hard in slow moving traffic, though it has excellent high end(only plus as per my experience).

If touring is an option to then Unicorn only!! Because of it's refined and excellent engine with good average and touring sense. Unicorn delivers 45-55kmpl on highways and in city my friend gets 45-50kmpl always.
But why not a Dazzler, where you get some fresh design and dual disc??

for touring I feel unicorn is not better option

When you compare Avenger with it then no wonder avenger will win!!
Avenger is made for tour where as unicorn is made for city/commuting purpose, but it's riding position and engine is also good to ride between 70-90kmph with an acceptable average!!

But Avenger is not good as compare to Unicorn in city and average!! So both are very different in all wise!!

agreed...unicorn has no match when it comes to engine smoothness...in city...u can't hear unicorn's engine's noise

If you are thinking on Unicorn then it should be Dazzler rather than Unicorn !!! Dual Disc makes more sense while riding!!
