  • Going for the Karizma - R

    Hey there,

I have scoured the internet for quite some time for advise on bikes to buy. After considering all the pros and cons and my requirements, I have decided to go for the Karizma - R. The reasons for my selection are:

    a) I am looking for something reliable that will be with me for a long time. My current bike, a Suzuki Samurai, has been with me for 13 years now. Although, briefly I had an RD 350, but, I gave it off because I was sure I will not be able to give it the care it required.

    b) I have always liked the looks of Karizma. To me it looks quite understated and elegant, not very in-your-face. So, this bike did have a lead on the other bikes.

    c) I will not be using the bike very often. Mainly during the weekends and sometimes to office. So, I did not have FE as a major factor that will alter my decision. FE is one place where Karizma was lower than the current crop of bikes.

    d) The quality, I have read, of Karizma (engine refinement and build quality) is similar if not better than newer bikes in the same class (e.g Pulsar, RTR, etc).

    e) I wanted a comfortable bike. A test drive helped me confirm that Karizma is indeed a comfortable bike.

    f) I may go for long rides, once in a while and Karizma seems to be one of the most comfortable bikes to have for long rides.

    g) Lastly, the bike fits in the budget that I had. And it is tried and tested.

But I don't see the point of this thread since you have already decided the bike you want to buy,
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

If Budget is the thing then ZMR is perfect!!

But if there is a room for choosing other, than why not a CBR150 ?? if you can extend the budget!! reliable tech and good looks!!

CBR is good tourer and fresh bike in Indian Market!! It has got all for weekend rides.

Even That has an average of 40-45kmpl, but heard of little more too..
Most lovely is the Honda engine, Handling, braking and Liquid Cool engine!!
Even this is pillion friendly and awesome on Highway with top speed of 130kmph+

Thanks for approving my post antz.bin. Apologies that my post looked more like a decision etched in stone than a query waiting for different point of views from exiting ZMA-R owners.

Actually, I wanted to see if my reasons are valid and correct.

@somen1984...thanks for your advise. Unfortunately, the bikes that you mentioned are above my budget. My budget is < 1 L.

Karizma-R has an OTR Pune of Rs 89,478/-, whereas the ZMR has an OTR Pune of somewhere around 1,11,000/-.

Can you please tell me from where did that R came in "Karizma-R "?? IS this related to R embossed on tank ?? i think that is R.

@somen1984...that's the one. The ZMR (Karizma ZMR) has the full fairing (I think that is what it is called). Whereas the Karizma-R lacks the full fairing. And yes, Karizma-R has the "R" on the tank.

Thanks Sunny. If everything goes well, I will be booking the bike pretty soon. The only reason that I posted here was to make sure that I am not making a mistake by choosing this bike.

(I know the pros and cons of the Karizma-R has been debated here to death, but, you know, it is just re-assuring to make sure it still is an excellent bike to invest close to 90K. Secondly, I plan to keep this bike for a long time, as in >5 years, so just wanted to be sure about the quality of the bike.)

Then why in websote it is not written as Karizma-R ?? IS this our assumptions of adding R ??

Till now i heard of ZMA and ZMR only!! but KArizma-R is just a sticker change or there is more to it??

No Idea Buddy...This is how it is and from a long time, I suppose. It is not that Karizma-R is something new.

don't know why but when i read the post of yours that you are willing to keep ZMA for more than 5 yrs then i think why you are opting to Karizma.

Karizma is a legend proven tourer with city riding. But Bro...it's very old design with very basic things in it. If you see around then you will see that people and tech are moving ahead miles in together!!
Karizma has an average of 30-35kmpl with only front Disc Brake and self dtart!!

Now even CBZX/hunk comes with a rear disc brake!! Bro you are opting a performance segment bike i.e 200+cc engine.
WHy don't you re-consider your decision. Today we have very good options all around us!!

If reliability is the concern then you can choose any brand today all have improved alot!!

                            Seriously think on :
                            1. NS200
                            2. P220

These above bikes are approx close to 1L, and worth keeping 5 more years because they have better tech and features than Karizma which will help you to smile 5 yrs.
Dual Disc, Oil/Liquid Cool, Projector head lights , better torque and speed.

If you are in range of 5.0-5.9 then why not a RTR 180 or ABS model??

If there are budget issues then wait and buy but go with something which will keep smile on your face, at least dual disc is a demand of today's time!!

Thanks @somen1984...this is the exact reason why I posted. I wanted different points of views. I am 5'11 and around 90 Kgs, so not very thin. NS200 and P220 are fine. The main thing that I want is reliability and quality. I do not want to run to the Service centre every 3 months to fix something, that's all. I had also checked with a mechanic near my house, he mentioned that Bajaj cannot be kept for long term and he gets a lot of bajaj bikes which keep coming for repairs. Not sure how right he is.

Again, thanks for you valuable advise.
