  • Thinking about a 1000.. [Bad or Good ?]

I am thinking about a SBK for a while now.I don't even want to think about a used one because i don't know if its reliable.

Where i live the chances of seeing a bike above 500 is very rare..so i cannot ask about ownership experience.
I do know that a 600 is more than enough for Indian roads..but getting a 600 is impossible without shipping it from outside.

After seeing a thread on another forum [Not gonna name that forum here] about Yamaha's after sale service on R1...I began to think deeply.

What i want to know about is the after sale service...Is it good.?

If i met with a problem with my ride...will they be able to fix it..? If not what should i do.?
Paying up to 16L and being stuck up with the ride is worst thing to happen.

Is there any known complaints and problems faced in R1,CBR1000R,Busa,CB1000R,?

Those are the bikes i been thinking about...especially R1 and CB1000R.

    Thanks.

Even if i am going to drop this whole plan of Super bikes...This thread may be helpful to many others who are just like me on the edge of confusion.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

SVC are almost same for all brands.

Yes anything over 600 is too much for India, as per the roads here. Why not GT650 or N650 ?? They are here in right price, which can help you to enjoy your dream of SBK with right price. And heard Honda does a home Service for SBK or they take it to SVC and back home.

There is a thread by Karan Mishra regarding this CBR check that, Similarly there is one for R1 too in Super Bike and Import Section. Do your home work there.
And catch those people, they will give you the best answers.

If I was you,I would not even think about super bike in kerala. What is your average speed considering the traffic and poor roads conditions?I will be more than happy with a duke,cb250r,ninja etc.But your choice mate!

Interesting replies to the thread. It feels that everyone keeps the throttle pinned to the max here, thats whey we get comments like "average speed" and "bad roads"

You see, a sbk is an element of passion. Sbk is not something that you can park your bike on the street and forget about it. It demands respect. It demands a lot more than just the money to purchase it. You need to be commited to own it - come what may.

I seriously feel that there should be a test for how passionate you are before you are allowed to purchase an sbk (maybe this is a bit overboard).

Yes, availability of parts is a concern and service should be taken but getting an sbk is more about purchasing from your heart rather than the mind.

          Rest is your take.

I don't see any passion biker buys a SBK and rides it over pothole!! or in city while day time in traffic!!

These are all dream lines nothing else.

              To Buy a SBK:
              1. One has to be dead dedicated to it.
              2. No Petrol expense care.
              3. Can maintain it like a big cars.
              4. Ready to wait for big bills if any.
              5. Focus rider

Jishnu: See buddy, I have seen some Sbk's experience threads. And generally speaking, people do run into problems with both R1 (Akhil) and CBR too (Tenhut). But those can be specific cases and not general. I will tell you more about living with a Sbk, the side effects of it:

                1. The heat from the engine. It can get above 100*C. Can you face the heat (from such a large engine) on your knees?

                2. One can't be angry and ride a Sbk at the same time. Give an angry throttle blip and you might crash yourself... It wheelies on throttle blips, above 5-6 krpm. If you got good grip, it will wheelie. Else, it will wheelspin & crash. Simple as that. The same thing applies to braking without ABS. You brake on mud, or you grab a handful, and you're done for!!

Your scientific fundamentals have to be very clear before you ride an Sbk. Fact.

                3. The costs. Forget the fuel, its the cheapest thing here. How about Rs. 17,000 for a rear tyre, and Rs. 11,000 or so for the front? And in most cases, the tyres will need a change every 10,000 kms anyhow. And I didn't even mention the other parts.

I suggest you think about the Ninja 650 seriously. It gives you 30~ kmpl on the highway. Its powerful enough too, for a 220 kmph. It has the looks. It has the basic technology. And its a capable touring machine, something you can actually do on Indian roads. And its been recently upgraded too, for 2012.
Or else, go for a CB 1000R which is still a CBR engine only in an overall practical package. FZ1 is bit more extreme focussed than CB 1000R.

The approx prices of these bikes are:
Ninja 650R: Approx 5.7 Lacs on road.
CB 1000R/ FZ1: Approx 10.5 Lacs on road.
                R1/ CBR1000RR: Approx 14.5 Lacs on road.

Think about it. The public can't conclusively differentiate, between the looks of R1 and Ninja 650, so the difference boils down MAINLY to the extra top end performance, racing level chassis setup, the extra 2 cylinders, and so. Do you really need them all?
