  • Bike with best ride quality and help.

    Hello friends,

I own a 2 year old (Jan 2011) Cb twister. Done 14500 kms on it mostly solo.It has been a fantastic bike with almost zero maintenance. Off late i have been facing terrible back problems with this bike. I feel its the stiff rear suspension at fault Maybe i am wrong fellow twister owners please throw light on this.I have been offered 32000 max for this bike by separate dealers and exchange showrooms.

I am thinking about changing it for a better bike with better ride quality.Power, Pick-up,top speed need not be taken into consideration. I am not fussy about the displacement either. Budget is more or less 90k. It would be good if the bike gave at least 45km/litre.
Following are the bikes i have considered with my outlook on the same.

1)Yamaha Fz/ Yamaha Fazer - The ride quality of these two bikes are good but towards the stiffer side but better than my current ride. How ever my friends who own Fz always claim their bikes never gave above 35- 38. Maybe it is cause of their riding habits.

    2) Bajaj avenger - I personally love this bike.No one i know owns this bike. it looks like the most comfortable bike of the lot.But i went to two bajaj showrooms one in goregoan mumbai and the other in borivali Mumbai both don't have test ride vehicles .This one sales man told me "sir you book the vehicle and then i will call you for test ride."I wanted to ask him if he ever thought about what he was saying and that if he knew what a test ride meant. So i have never driven this bike and i dont know how it is. Also another concern is my everyone i ask from my mechanic to friends is against bajaj saying it will cause problems in a year and is prone to problems. Bajaj avenger owners please help.

    3) Honda Unicorn - Have never tried. Plain Looks. Old Out dated.

    4) Suzuki Gs150r- Heard it has good ride quality. Like it. Again no test drive available. I mean come on. How do i buy something out here.

    5) Bullet classic 350 - my favorite 1 year waiting makes it undesirable.

Any other bike suggestions welcome. Bike will be used 70% city 30% high.

Also if i can do any adjustment to the current suspension of this bike like replacing shocks from another bike please suggest on that also.

Sorry for the long post. thanks.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

when you are asking for comfortable bike within 80 k rs budget, the bikes come to my mind are unicorn[dazzler too],fz,gs 150 r.
recently rode one discover 125 st,the bike is comfortable too.
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

i will test ride it .the problem with showroom these days is no one has a test ride bike. but then if i am going for bajaj wont avenger be better?

As on for the budget what if i extend it to 1.4lac are there any comfy bikes then. (i have 90k in savings the rest will be loan if the bikes worth it.)
My running is 8k kms in a year. I also dont mind buying a second hand bike so budget is not so much of an issue.

I went too bajaj for a test drive of 200 NS.Got the same reply. They said if test drive is without booking, many will come and ride simply.
Most comfortable bike I can think of is CB unicorn.Ride is way too smooth for me(I like little harshness).

avenger my friend is little bit difficult to ride in city traffic and pillion comfort is not that great.
if you are extending your budget then 3 comfortable bikes will make it to your list e.g. zmr and cbr 150 r.,200 ns.

but then do you really need to spend 1 lac rs on a bike when you are gonna ride only 8k km per annum or aprrox 650 km per month??

Go for the Hunk or the Avenger.. Both are good for rider comfort but not so good on pillions, if pillion is occasional in your bike then i think you can compromise on that.
I've mentioned Hunk from personal experience, i found the handlebar to be very wide n long and the footpegs are rearset just the amount it has to be, it makes for a very nice riding posture. With Gas shocks the ride quality is good too (however compared to Gs150R and pulsar 150 its slightly harder)

With back problem you are only going to aggravate it with bike riding. i have a friend with similar condition he walks bent to one side now still rides bikes though. Yours may not be that serious but still.
zmr is tight suspension performance oriented have one at home , unicorn is very soft i ride it.
weight of bike also defines softness a lighter bike tends to bounce of uneven surfaces.

When there is a back problem then the most comfortable bike to ride is TBTS/RE or Avenger any time.

You mentioned your budget as 90k where as CL comes for 1.3L+ so i am thinking are you open to this ??
Why classic when you have Electra and STD ?? Electra has better seats then classic, which will support your ass and back comfort unlikely CL, which gives a small ache at ass. CL is not good for pillion either.

Avenger is also a nice machine and bike to own and enjoy the comfort, if you ride it right. As it's a low bike so you can't bump it over any bumper or potholes, else Newton's law would be applicable over you!! But if you ride it like a cruiser then you won't find any issues with it.
In city you won't find this good due to it's big turning radius as usual for cruiser kind/type bikes. Handling won't be that problem, but you won't be able to get through as you use to get by Twister!!

Frankly speaking even Dazzler would do the work , But avenger and Electra are more better in terms of comfort!!

So choose now which you want!!

Borrowed the avenger from a friends friend for an hour. Didn't get to ride in traffic although the seat is huge the pillion seat is very small for my mom. I am still contemplating buying this bike. As for the bullet Electra has a waiting of 6 months and classic is 1 year. The new 2012 Thunderbird is just way out of budget there's waiting there too.

I am scared of buying a bajaj because people included my trusted mechanic says it wont be a trouble free bike.
So i guess all i am left is with the dazzler which i will test ride or buy an avenger and bear the costs of services.
Also my mechanic suggested i can swap my twister shocks for gas filled shocks from pulsar how is this idea? will it make any difference?

Although the doctor is advising to stay away from bikes completely for a while.I own a old trusted santro but mumbai traffic will just trouble my travelling time and parking is another issue
thanks a lot for your input guys.

For the best ride quality, there is one bike all of you have been ignoring. The Hero Karizma. This one you can really consider since FZ/Fazer/Avenger from your own shortlist weren't going to fit in the 45kmpl criteria anyways. Neither will Karizma. Only Unicorn and GS150R will fit the FE requirement but both are quite heavy in their own right.

Another school of thought will tell you to stay away from heavier bikes if you have back trouble. In that scenario, do try out the Bajaj Discover 150/125ST which will be comfy AND will satisfy the mileage requirement with ease.

Anyways, for congested city riding, I would recommend Discover and for Highways, Karizma would be better.

Finally, if you are having back trouble from riding 8k km/year you either need to change your commute route OR increase back strengthening exercises OR both. Apart from that, what you need to change is probably your riding position.

Best of luck for your purchase.

                          Superlike....

Its a wrong notion that Bajaj bikes have weak internals. In fact they're so good that people rip their bikes right from the showroom. That is why they face problems later on.
If you complete your run in period gracefully and maintain your bike later in a humanly way, then I don't see a BAL bike (or any bike for that matter) giving major issues.
Small niggles exist with all bikes. But Bajaj prices good products at a great range, reachable by masses.

Though I would have suggested you ZMA(the most comfortable and reliable machine), I am kinda afraid,it might me discontinued/refreshed soon. No ads of ZMA any more.
So I would suggest you the ZMR . If your budget is less, get the Dazzler..... FZ is great as well, though it has a little stiffer suspension.

thanks all for your responses. I will check the 125st discover..and update this thread hopefully i will get a test ride.

As for Zmr I test drove it , it too bulky for my liking . I really love the karizma r which they r still selling @ 90k but 2 of my friends who own it say it never gives more than 35kmpl max. I think it will be the same case with the avenger.
So for the test drive list ,

                              1) Unicorn Dazzler
                              2)Discover 125
                              3) Suzuki gs150R
