  • Looking for a gearless scooter

    Hi xBHPians,

I need suggestions and advices on getting a gear-less scooter.
    Budget is 60.
It is for my girl friend - she is 5'5.
Primary usage will be running errands and some trips here and there.
Ride will be mostly with a pillion.
And the ride should be reliable.

    Now the options,

    1. Honda - Activa and Aviator and Dio:
Activa and Dio dont have telescopic suspension. On this Kolkata roads, its difficult without that.
Aviator is a bit too big for her.

    2. Suzuki - Access and Swish:
Swish was my personal choice. But had to rule them out as there is no service center (atleast thats what I have seen from their website).

    3. Yamaha Ray:
It is shortlisted so far. However, being a new launch, I do not see much of review on this one. But I trust the brand Yamaha and little biased towards it.

    4. Tvs Wego:
It is also shortlisted. And with bigger wheeles, goodies like body balance tech, easy to put center stand etc makes this one a hands down winner among the available Indian scooters.

So, to sum it up, I have two options left now, Ray and Wego.
Help me finalize one among them - with reasons. Once I get your approval, will book it this week and planning to take delivery on 8th Dec [Her b'day]
If you feel any the other scooters I have ruled out already can be a better option, please justify.

    Thanks

My sis-in-law (bhabhi) has been using a scooter (Mahindra Rodeo) since March 2010 and till date, she has not put it on main-stand. I don't know how that feature is helpful. Of course, if you go to college and stuff, it helps. But for running errands, why would you need the main-stand, like ever?

Ray is a nice scoot, but do TR everything before finalizing it even if you are biased towards it.

I will tell you another convenience feature girls love. Being able to fill up without getting off the scoot (like we do on the bike).
Ray (Activa, Dio, Access, Swish, Aviator) fuel-tank is under the seat.

Wego fuel-tank is not under the seat but you have to be Ramdev Baba to successfully fill up while still sitting on the scooter .

Rodeo / Flyte do this well. And they have telescopic shocks, and their GC was increased recently, and their seat height is still low and they are reasonably powerful. Think about it.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Yeah I am also thinking the same. It is better to be safe in case of gals .P
Btw, I am a little inclined towards Wego after removing Swish / Access from the list. Can it be a good choice? I am little concerned about its durability.

lol at that! takes a bit of stretching to fill up pertol on a wego. I recommend wego. I've ridden activa, pleasure, aviator but this one is really a good vehicle. its ultra flickable you can just zip around in traffic. Mileage is not bad you get around 45 - 50 (sane riding - economy band). Its got a easy (EZ) center stand. i've never seen my mom putting my kinetic honda on its center stand, but in this its easy for her. Its got broader seats to help with comfort on long rides. Overall a good package considering the price. (53k on road cochin). Aviator's costly so is activa. Do test ride every vehicle and also ask ppl about their service quality. Here my place I find Tvs service is better than honda's

Please remove Activa, Access, Swish.... Decide between Honda Dio and Yamaha Ray... In my town I am seeing too many Yamaha Ray's running it is really good and the feedback from reliable sources also say that Yamaha Ray is good .. Handling is way good from Dio otherwise Dio and Ray are equally matched in the trendy scooter segment with good build quality, engine performance and reliability......
Test ride both and make your decision....

Activa, Aviator and Access is already removed from the list.
The choice to be made Wego and Ray.
Ray has a waiting period of 2 months here, so removed that too from the list.
And I have only one option left, Wego.
Advantage of Wego over Dio? - Bigger tires and better suspensions. For Dio, maybe looks and Honda reliability.
Now, she is not going to commute daily on her scoot, so it will most be used for weekend trips in and around city.
So, we have decided for Wego.
However, if you have really good and valid points for any other scoots, your suggestions are most welcome.

                    Thanks for your help.

Wego is good decision. You will not be disappointed definitely.
I bought it 15 days before for my dad. Plus points I want to note are excellent riding comfort (definitely body balance tech and larger wheels works, you can clearly find out difference that how much it is comfortable in comparison to others when you drive it) and mileage i got just once which is 50.16 km pl (155 km in 3.09 Lt tank full to full method which is accurate).
And another point is easy center stand which is very much important. It is good habit to put any two wheeler on center stand during night (which most of us are not doing) because side stand can cause slight leakage of air and early wearing of tires (most of weight remain on tires in case of side stand while it transfer to stand in case of center stand)
                      So just go for it.
