      hi Saurabh..

how about an ungeared scooter. i know you've specifically asked for a bike.. but still. even my dad was looking for a new steed few years back and i found an activa or any 100+ cc ungeared scooter would fit very well for city ride. of-course much depends on your dad's preference though. all the best for your search.

        Hey guys!!

        Reopening this thread again.

After buying new car and old bike gone - my father feels the need of a new bike.

And this is strictly limited to 125CC bike (no scooter). So we are considering:
        - Honda Shine -- it has a wait period and we want to buy it in a couple of days.
        - HH Glamour
        - and possibly ZEUS

Could you guys once again suggest one? This is strictly for my father and for city ride.

        Thanks.

Wait till Auto Expo 2010. You may get to know many choices. If you can't wait till then, Bajaj is about to introduce Pulsar 135 in 2nd week of December, check it. Else Glamour is the best bet

why not the gladiator??? its got the big bike feel, and is powerful too!

Otherwise i would suggest the honda shine. Great VFM. last the super splendor, for being a HH, nothing else!!! Not that it aint a great bike, but just another one in the ocean of HH!!

No, my father may not wait till Auto Expo or even the 2nd week of Dec

That's the problem, it is also a bigger bike . Height could be a constraint for this.

Yeah that is the first in the list but has a wait period.

as per your requirements, you can go for following bikes :
                1) honda shine - good average, low maintenance.
                2) discover - good average.
                3) gladiator - its from yamaha so i need not tell further.
                4) passion pro - its actually 100cc but nice average.

Since Honda Shine has a waiting period you may buy the Suzuki Zeus if you/your father have liked it. In fact for me the Zeus is better than the Shine.

Instead of the HH Glamor you may buy the HH Passion Pro. Lot of complaints from the mechanics about the HH's 125cc engines giving up very early unlike the 100cc engines they have seen so far. And the Passion definitely looks better than the Glamor.

BTW, the Gladiator is not taller than the others. The feel and the way it moves is like that of a big bike.

Don't you want to try the TVS Flame DS and/or the Jive?

In a turn around event, my father bought a Mahindra Duro because of multiple reasons.

Thanks guys for all your comments and suggestions.

Beautiful. I am sure your father and the whole family would relish the new purchase. Good choice I should say.

A quick update about Duro: I got a chance to ride it during my recent visit to home, here are some pros and cons:

                        Pros:
                        1) Really goodunder seat space
                        2) Really usable broad foot board
                        3) Good peppy engine. As compared to my sis's pleasure it had noticeable more power and smoother ride.

                        Cons:
                        1) Too soft shockers setting -- not sure if it is the case with our bike only, would love to have a help on this from all you bike gurus.
                        2) Very bad ground clearance(partly due to sockers bottoming out) -- for a sub urban places, even with small/medium size bumps cause underbody getting a hit. Seems like middle stand is a makeshift fitment down there.
                        3) Very very poor plastic quality

Overall, it is a good ride for smooth rodes but with even a slight bumpy condition it is just an unmanageable piece of crap specially with pillion.

Duro has very bad ride quality and you cannot do anything. And, I still do not understand how you coose Duro over many good scooters.

You make mistakes and then learn from them, that's how humans evolve

Anyways choosing it was another story altogether.
