  • First bike 100-125cc

I'm 24 years old, and finally going to buy a bike. My height is 5"8' but I weigh only about 53 kg, so I need a bike that is lightweight and comfortable. I'm going to use it in the city and maneuver it through heavy traffic, so the above two features are important to me.

I've ridden a Bajaj Platina before and was kind of ok with it. I don't want a biggish bike, I can compromise on power so something simple would be enough.

I am looking at the following options:
    1) Hero Ignitor
    2) Honda Twister
    3) Honda Shine
    4) The newly released Bajaj Discover 100T.

As you could find out from my BMI, I lack stamina, so that's why I'm restricting myself to 100-125cc. I don't want to ride a monster! Kindly let me know whether the options that I have considered are good enough, and please suggest other alternatives as well. I can spend up to 60k. Thanks in advance!

Discover 100T and Honda Shine are remarkably close to each other on most real-world performance parameters. The Honda, though quite good in terms of FE in the 125cc segment would have to do very very well to match FE of a 100cc bike.

Ignitor will be slightly over your budget and it also is the heaviest bike in your shortlist.

Do consider the TVS Phoenix also, it is THE LIGHTEST 125cc bike, lighter than even some 100-110cc bikes and is a premium product (fit, finish, and engine smoothness-wise) for a not so premium price.

Finally, you need to test ride all the bikes because nobody else can tell you which bikes you will be comfortable on.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Remove ignitor as its bulky of the lot. I would just say one thing. TD the mentioned bikes, add phoenix, dream yuga and hayate. TD them all. You'll find some more comfy than the others. Buy the one which you are comfortable on

I got the D125ST yesterday. And when I was researching, I visited Honda showroom. Every bike they have has a waiting period of about 8 months. So if you want a bike, quickly, you may have to look at something else.

Also, one tip I can provide is - TD each bike you like and then make a decision. Do not go by anything shown on paper - it is many times misleading. Some showrooms dont allow a TD, so at least do a sit-on test. Try to handle the bike by sitting on it, try to put it on center stand, etc... these kind of things. Sit on the bike and see how comfortable the handle is, etc.

            Hope that helps. Good luck

              Re: First bike 100-125cc

Thanks guys. Now I'm thinking of settling only for 100cc. I'll try to put off buying until I'm absolutely sure of what I'm going to buy. So here's my new list:
              1) Dream Yuga
              2) Hayate
              3) Twister
              4) Discover 100T

Let me know if I've missed out on anything.

@moniker - I would suggest you go for something with a little bit more power. I would suggest D150 if in your budget. It's a good, lite bike with 150cc. Off course, it's not the latest and greatest, but still it's 150CC. Personally, it's got better build than D125ST or D100T. OTR here in Mumbai is something like 62K.
I don't want to be offensive here, but what if you put on weight or what if you end up riding with a pillion every time? Then this extra power will come in handy. Grab the D150 before they get rid of it. It's a good proposition.

I've ridden Hayate with a pillion (showroom person) and I can say that it has good pick-up and power. The only problem is spare parts and resale. If you are good with that, then go for it. It's worth.

I've heard a lot about Twister. But you need to check the waiting period for it. Honda bikes have long waiting period as I mentioned earlier.

You can try other bikes from TVS - City, Star, Phoenix, etc. Hero Honda - Achiever, Ignitor, Super splendor. The 150cc bike from yamaha - not sure what it's called now SZ or SZX or whatever - is a good one.

What I think is, it's good to spend 10~15K upfront now than crib about low power every day later on.

                Good luck

As suggested add TVS Phoenix, Honda Dream Yuga and Yamaha SS125 to your list and exclude Hero Igniter. Also try Pulsar 135 ....
                  Yamaha RX100 (1993)
                  Yamaha RX135 (2000)
                  Bajaj Pulsar 150 (2004)
                  Yamaha FZ-25 (2017)
                  TVS N-Torq (2018)

Since you are a light weight person, going for a lighter bike is usually a good thing. But light needn't mean less power.

I suggest you stick to a bike that has disc brakes at the front. You shouldn't compromise on safety aspect of a bike. In that case, TVS Phoenix 125 is the ideal bike to buy. That or, the Bajaj Discover 125 (non-ST model) which costs the same as Discover 100T. I wouldn't recommend Twister or Passion XPro since both are overpriced for what they offer and the Phoenix 125 is priced at par with them anyway.

I was just checking out this review

Bajaj Discover 100T video review | Video | Autocar India

The most interesting bit was that the Discover 100T accelerates 0-60kmph a full 1.3 seconds faster than the erstwhile fastest 100-110cc bike (Twister/ Dream Yuga).

That's faster than most 125s, 1 second faster than Phoenix, 1/2 a second faster than Honda Shine and just 1/2 a second off Discover 125ST's timing.

My vote would go for SS125 for it's sheer quality.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

honestly if you look into the practicality aspect the difference is not much. so my take would be any bike that you are comfortable with go for it.
