  • Hunk VS Karizma

    Greetings,

I live in Port Blair, Andaman. This would be my first bike. I'm 5'9'' and weight 75 kg. I need the bike primarily for commuting to college and for weekend rides. The roads are mostly bad, the terrain inconsistent (lots of climbs and descents, so lots of gear changing and good torque required , no scope of sustained high speeds (average speeds in the range of 20 - 40 km/h, max about 70 km/h), lots of corners (not the good kind), and very frequent start-stop traffic. Oh, and it rains 9 months out of 12 here (read: rust and cold start issues). My budget is 80K. (Andaman is an UT so Karizma R is ~81K on-road)

I wish to keep the bike for about 5 years, so i want a reliable bike with no spare issues (this is my first bike so i'm bound to kiss the asphalt). Yamaha is not an option as the only dealer here sucks. I had to choose between Hero, Honda and Bajaj. Spares are an issue here (the take months to arrive) so opted out Bajaj bikes, Didn't like the Honda Dazzler, so the decision came down to three. I'm not really inclined toward the Unicorn as its only advantage over the hunk is its mono-shock. So the final decision came down to Karizma R and Hunk (don't like the CBZ much). Between the two which handles better? And which one is better suited to my needs. Please help.

    Yours Gratefully,
    Anirban

Hunk makes more sense, not sure you will be using Karizma-R to its potential, but if you love it just go for it. Mind says Hunk, heart says Karizma R

given just these two choices, i will put the money on karizma.. would be a prudent investment.

If you are attaining a max of 70kmph then HUNK will be sufficient and Karizma will do it even faster than hunk.
When i rode hunk and karizma i felt karizma is much better than hunk in all specs(handling, control, sound).
TD both the bikes and you will get a perfect answer...

Did you considered Impulse? For the kind of usage that you had mentioned Impulse seems to be the best bet

I agree with MG...Impulse will be best...motocross look..modern machine. Coming back to your requirements you are not into much touring within Andaman...but still ZMA is better than Hunk anyday....low end torque is good for city ride...fe is around 30kmpl...if you have a fear of fall...get stunner's legguard fitted to Karizma...the headlight cowl is damn exxpensive. TD both and decide.

Impulse and Hunk have the same engine, gearbox, speed and torque spec... the difference is the offroad look , and a higher ground clearence (big advantage in your case), rest is practically nothing much of an advantage / diadvantage...
Karizma is the better option bet for you... it did have bad plastics isue earlier but i believe that its been rectified now.

If you are open for Bajaj, 200NS is also a very good option...

                  Just my 2 cents ...
Question yourself - For a first time rider (read limited riding skills) ,college go-er (assuming limited pocket money) and a top speed need of only till 70 kmph do you really need a 150cc + unless you are a super-enthusiast.
Both the bikes you mentioned are very good in their own might but are a tad heavy (150 kgs+ wet) for a newbie and may be difficult to handle for you specially when you already have a fear of falling.
At the risk of inviting flak I would suggest you Honda twister:
                  +Light and easy to handle
                  +Smooth engine
+bullet proof engine & Honda reliability
                  +Good km-pl

                  - Only 110cc

Go for hunk since your usage is mostly in stop & go traffic...Karizma opens it's arms properly at 60 KMPH & feels like butter riding in between 80-100 non stop all day...But for your requirement Hunk suites better..also you will save good amount on fuel bills
