  • Help me decide my P220 upgrade!

hi i currently own a pulsar 220 and i stay in a a place where i get to ride on a national highway daily, and the p220 is a great bike i love it but i think i am ready to get a bit more power on my hands, i think the p220 just not enough now but my budget is also not big as im still a student, around 3 lacs is my max budget and will be willing to spend that much iff i get a good deal, i was looking for a 250cc twin-cylinder bikes, i am okay with used bikes as well, my options were the ninja 250r or the hyosung comet 250. I found a deller in bangalore who is willing to sell his comet for a good price but he complains that his bike is unable to reach top speeds it is reaching max 130 kmph he claims, odo reading is around 15000 kms. except that the bike is in excellent condition, the bike i think still runs on carbs (2005) so im guessing the tuning of carbs is messed up but he says that the spark plugs need to be changed and it will be fine. i am not sure what to do and i the seller is in need of money so wants to sell the bike asap and i dont want to miss it. i stay in mangalore so going there personally can only be done if my chances of buying the bike are high. please guys help me out tell me how should i proceed?

    thanks in advance

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Man, I'm still not able to believe what I just read. I think I've never seen, read, or heard of an insult worse than this to a world class, world renowned bike(read Ninja 250r)! You have the Ninja as one choice, and the Comet as the other! That too a 2005 model! Don't even think about it brother. When you're talking about the Baby Ninja, there's no other production bike in India that qualifies to stand as a second option! Simple. Given that you have the money and the right kind of roads(highways) to ride it on, what more reason would you possibly need. Its your perfect choice. I think you could get your hands on a new Ninja 250R in your 3 lac budget, or wait, better still, sell off the p220, add up the cash and try for a Ninja 300R!

Hmmm right krrish. I only thought that if he's a kind of student who has 3 lacs to spend on a bike, he wouldn't mind😜. But ya, he would have to know that if he's going for a TWO-CYLINDER bike of world class quality, riding AND maintaining it is not gonna be anywhere as cheap as the pulsar. But I'm sure once he gets a taste of the Ninja, then he surely wont mind! 😄abhishekpujar, are you reading?

            Here.. Try this one

            2012 Hyosung GT 650 N - xBhp Classifieds : Buy & Sell

The seller has been trying to sell the bike since december without any luck. Check it out and report here. Bargain hard if its any good.

Having used a P220 for over 3 years, I know that none of the 250s feel like a logical upgrade. A 250 is more of an incremental upgrade rather than a step up. Why not try one of the 650s while you have the option to. Maintenance of the Hyosung would be only *slightly* higher than the Ninja while being a LOT more fun.

              Valid point there.
But would he get a 650 for the price range of 3 lakhs ? Seems pretty bleak to me.

hey guys first of all sorry for the late reply had been on a solo ride and no internet access. The situation is that my parents are willing to give me 1 lac for my new bike and if i sell my 220 i should get around 50k and i have some savings of 50k so all around i can manage 2.1-2.2 lacs i can ask more from my parents but i dont want to. what do you think i can get around this budget which would be a reasonable upgrade from my current ride. i did not like CBR 250, so ruling out that.

Since you still rely on your parents for funds I would actually tell you to strike off Ninja 250 from your list, the bike does demand ready funds to pay if damaged. Being brutally honest to you.

CBR would be the perfect contender since it is an upgrade from your current steed, you can go for the ABS model since you have 2L as your budget.

ZMR, R15 or even CBR 150R would give you an equated output around the 220, some are more and some are less but nothing would be new to you.

Other option is Duke 200, but do you love naked bikes? Ask yourself this question before investing, I do not know the cost of Duke 390 so wont advice you anything on that. Sidelining the 200NS also.

If you are a RE fan then yes lots of options there.

If I was in your place with that many funds would definitely go for ABS CBR 250, it is a wonderful machine and would actual mean a serious upgrade to your current steed.

Here I think Honda is the only logical answer! With maintenance and your budget with a student criteria!!

well i am 6'4" and i tried a duke once and it is just too short for me! my knees were awkwardly sticking out, CBR also is the same problem and i dont think its so much of an upgrade over 220 i mean yes i agree its faster and all but i dont have to sell my bike and all for a marginal increase in power. i was looking for a twin cylinder bikes, if i can get a hyosung gt250 and get a custom exhaust and make some mods i think that would be good? it will also come under my budget a used one! what do you guys think?
