  • Confused!!!!!! P220 to R15

    Hi...
I'm currently a Bajaj Pulsar 220S owner and its been a pleasure riding the bike for the last two and a half years... well now I'm thinking of getting the Yamaha R15.Version 2.0...I'm almost 6 feet tall and I have tried riding the bike once which is owned by a friend!!! The problem is i have great difficulty shifting gears especially 5th and 6th!!!!
Is it because I'm used to the riding posture of the P220??
Do other 6footers have dis problem??
    Kindly advice....

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

If you are well built too then you'd look huge on the bike. Riding position and the gears are something I'm sure that you will get used too.
Meanwhile, you may have condsider the thoughts of ktm200, why are you off that?

I also look sometime to R15 and the only reason to left behind the R15 v2.0 is because bike looks very small on me, I am also 6 feet with average built, but 1 thing i consider if me myself will feel good on the bike I'll never mind to bought one and forget about the world.....let see what other fellow bikers think......

The first couple of rides will definitely feel unusual. I migrated from a Gladiator to CBR250 and believe me, althought the riding position on the CBR is way more relaxed compared to the R15, it still felt very awkward...but after a few rides, I was feeling at home.

At the end, all that counts is how much you like the bike. If you feel happy and content with the bike, you shouldn't care a damn about how others may perceive you. I'd suggest you to exchange your bike with your friends' R15 and go for an extended ride. See how well it suits you over a long ride.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Thanks guys for the inputs ....for me personally the R15 is the best looking bike in the market today, the only thing holding me back is the riding position.... I am just average built and the duke, sad to say, is out of my budget... so I think all it takes is just getting used to the position of the R15 right guys???

Also I must add that since I have been using the P220 S...I want to get a bike wit fairing...that another reason why I am not considering the duke or the P200 NS for that matter....

I guess you really, really like the R15. If that's the case, as I said earlier, just go for a long ride (atleast 50kms) and see if you are comfortable. If it suits, then just go for it!

If you didn't find the position comfortable even after a longish ride, or if you are looking for other options in faired bikes, you can consider the ZMR - It's not the sexiest bike in the market but it fits your budget, it has a very comfortable riding position and much better torque compared to R15 - so it's more relaxed in traffic.

IMO I would suggest you go for the bike you love and in time you will get used to it. I had the Thunderbird before I went for the Ninja250 and trust me mate it was a bit weird at first but after a few rides you become one with the bike and eventually you forget what it was like on the other one, seriously! I spent six months on the ninja and later I tried riding the Thunderbird ( which I used to refer to as the most comfortable bike ever!! ) I just couldn't get used to the foot rest position and I kept wondering to myself, how on earth did I manage to ride this all these years?! lol

How come a riding position affect shifting gears ??

Check out a well maintained bike and then decide. Test ride is very important before you buy it.

BTW what makes you think you should buy R15 after owing P220 ??

Apart from looks and handling you won't enjoy anything, because your mind will always compare R15 with P220.

R15 won't be as comfortable as P220 is now for you.
Power of R15 is no where close to P220.
You can see the P220 power in every gear where as R15 will come to life after higher rpms only.

Why not CBR 250 ? CBR 250 would be more logical buy after P220.

Wait for some months save some money, because the difference between R15 and CBR 250 STD would be close to 30-40k approx. It's better to buy little late than now and regret later.

Thanks for various inputs guys...appreciate it...
I guess all it takes is getting accustomed to the position of the r15.and yes I know the pick up of the p220 is way better than the r15!!!but I love the look of the r15 especially the newly launched red white combi, its super sexy...its definitely turns heads whole driving the karizma zmr is too big for me. the CBR is out of my budget so I'm left with just one affordable FAIRED bike, the r15!!!
shifting gears is a problem because my leg is too long to shift to higher gears especially from 4th upwards...lol...

Bro,by changing gears 4th upwards means changing from 4th to 5th and 6th.... also I'm almost 6' n just 59kgs....so big bikes would probably look funny on me...

Bro, the gear shift lever in R15, like most of the bikes returns to the center position after a gear shift. So, no matter which gear you're in, the position will be the same. If you're experiencing some difficulties in those gears, it might be because your friends bike has some problem. Test ride some other bike and decide like somen said.
