  • Pulsar 135 ls or Yamha sz r

    Hello Xbhp,

This is my first Bike, So i dont want to regret later on my decision.

Need Help and Ownership experiences.I am confused among these two bikes

Pulsar 135 ls or Yamha sz r

I have read all the possible posts and reviews about these two bikes. I am seriously inclined towards Pulsar as I had a test ride few days back. I am still finding time for Yamaha test ride.

    My requirements:

1.Will travel an average of 16 kms daily.

    2.FE = 50-60 kmpl

3.I have choosen these two bikes so my budget is around 70k +- 2k (IN bangalore so prices are 5k more than any place in India).

    4. I am 22. 5'9''tall ,71kgs.

5.I like to take occasional highway rides around bangalore , but less than 200 kms.

6.Concerned about Looks.. But both look good for me.

and I have heard that Pulsar 135 ls have some gearbox problems.

I dont see many 135's around as I see SZr. Reviews say that It can beat many 150cc bikes in terms of high end power.

People say Bajaj Engines are not so refined, I donno what that means anyway.

      Dear Balu,

The 135 is an excellent bike, but it is a high-revving bike which delivers peak power and torque at much higher RPMs - which makes it a bit frustrating in bumper-to-bumper traffic. The SZR delivers it's peak torque at a very relaxed 4500 RPM, which makes it an excellent machine for relaxed city riding.

If you would be riding on relatively open roads (such as the EC flyover) and love the scream of the engine at 9000RPM, you will enjoy the P135. If you ride in bumper-to-bumper traffic, or prefer a smooth and silent ride, you will love the SZ-R. And yes, the P135 can beat the SZ-R in terms of top speed (P135=115km/h, SZ-R=100-105km/h), but the SZR will outshine the P135 in ease of riding and comfort.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

When I tell my friends that I have choosen Pulsar 135, they say dont go for it, Its a flop Bike. No one is sujjesting me this bike.

Reviews say its a great bike.

All my friends say is increase your budget and Buy Pulsar 150 or RTR 160.

As far as bikes are concerned, always follow your heart buddy
If you feel that a certain bike will make you happy and fulfil all your biking requirements, then it will definitely keep you happy, regardless of whether it is a hit or a flop model!

Coming to the topic, the P135 is definitely a good bike, a step ahead from previous-generation Pulsars. You haven't shared your usage patterns and riding style (touring/commuting/racing/stunting/family/whatever) and preferences (top speed/acceleration/mileage/looks/comfort), but if it as all about choosing between P135 and SZ-R, then my reply above would help you make a choice. If you are looking for other 150cc options, then there are 15-odd models in the market across all brands and it will get more confusing as you delve deeper.
