  • New bike for a newbie

    Hey guys
I've just completed my schooling (cbse)
I'm looking for a good fun bike to be used for college and touring
    Here are my stats-
    Height = 5'11
    Weight = 75 kgs
My leg length is a bit long so please keep that in mind

What I need from the bike-
    1. Fun factor
    2. Easy to ride
    3. Easy to maintain on my own ( as it is my first bike I would like to get to know more about it mechanically by doing some jobs myself)
    4. Long distance comfort
    5. Mileage is NOT that important.Range IS
    6. Modifications should be available
    7. Safety (eg ABS)

My usage pattern would be 60% highway
BUDGET = 1.5 lacs (can be stretched)

Please don't suggest either Pulsar 200ns or Karizma

Bike will be bought in June

Simple !! RTR 180 ABS. a tough bike with safety option of ABS !!
Average and power is also good with good handling.
But I doubt on your height. Test ride and check. My ride rides one but he is 5.9ft.

Else go for some second hand Honda CBR250 ABS.

Any reason why you don't like NS200 ??

KTM DUKE 200cc ABS will be a better option.
Fun to ride, spares are reasonable.
Royal Enfield Bullet Standard 350cc 1989, Bajaj Avenger 200-2009, Pulsar 200 NS 2015.

            Hi,
My word of advice. As a first bike, dont go for ktm.Its a wild beast, you have to learn bike riding on a 100 or atmost 150 cc bike. Then go for something more powerful like a ktm or ninja.Do visit a ktm service center in your town. You'd be shocked after seeing the crashed ktms. Not that its a non controllable bike, it is, infact a very good bike if you know the nuances.Best luck for your purchase.

^^ +1. For a first timer, a 150cc is the best. There are plenty of good-looking and powerful 150s in the market. Jumping on to 200-250 bandwagon right at the beginning may not be a wise move. My brother too got his first bike last year just after he finished schooling. He was insistent on a P220, but we eventually convinced him for the SZ-R. In spite of being 150, he sometimes goes berserk and has landed in biting dust couple of times. Make sure you get a good hang of all the aspects of biking (safe braking, panic braking, cornering, handling on wet/slippery/gravel roads, handling crosswinds etc etc) before switching to something powerful.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Re: New bike for a newbie

Honda CBR 250R is the bike for you which meet all your requirement. But as a first timer if you want to learn riding a bike stick to bikes below 150CC.

                      Bike For all needs?

Hey guys, I had posted a query earlier but it didnt get answered so im putting up a new, more detailed one
First let me post the basics

                      1. Budget = 1.2 lackhs
                      2. Age = 18 years
                      3. Height = 5'11
                      4. Weight = 75 kgs
                      5. Intended usage = mostly open road, highway
                      6. Fuel Efficiency requirement = Doesnt matter much
                      7. City & Highway percentage usage = city approx 30% highway 70%
                      8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running = 2000 kms
                      9. City / Town /Village of residence = new delhi, mohali ( college in mohali)
                      10. Brand / Bike type preference = R15/ZMR/200 ns

Mostly there will be no pillion on the bike
Most of my running will be Delhi to mohali and vice versa
Occasional weekend tour is a definite
I need a bike which has aftermarket parts easily available as i am a huge fanatic of customization
I will upgrade to 1 600 cc after 6 to 7 years so any bike which will help me in superbiking techniques will be better
I am not a big fan of ZMR :/

Yes, but as a lot of things such as budget and intended usage had changed i thought it would be better to start a new thread
                          I'll remember next time :P
