  • Honda Shine or Pulsar 135 LS or CB Twister?

    Hey guys,

My brother-in-law is interested in getting his first bike. His budget is around 65 to 70k. He is 6 feet tall and weighs 68 kg He will mostly be doing city riding

Mileage and after-sale service are important

He initially told me that he's interested in getting the Honda Shine, but after searching these forums, I came to know about the Pulsar 135 LS, which is almost in the same price range. Now, we are confused. Also, I read that CB Twister gives a mileage of 65 to 70 kpl. Is that true ?

Which bike would you guys suggest ?

Thanx a lot in advance. Desperately waiting for a reply

Please go through the checklist and try to add info that you have missed out. Off the top of my head, I can see that you haven't mentioned your BiL's age and intended usage of the bike.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

      Hi,

Thanx for approving my thread. My BiL's age is 24 years old and he'll be commuting from home to office and back within city limits He'll also be using it to conduct regular day to day activities like doing house chores or going out with friends, etc. All within city limits

      1. Budget - 65 to 70k.
      2. Age - 24.
      3. Height - 6 feet.
      4. Weight - 68 kg.
      5. Intended usage - Office/College commute, Weekend recreation riding, etc - ALL within city limits
      6. Fuel Efficiency requirement (approx., if any) - 50 to 55 is okay
      7. City & Highway percentage usage - 100% City. He won't be allowed by his parents to take the bike on highways JUST YET :P
      8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running - 10 to 20 km daily (am exaggerating).
      9. City / Town /Village of residence (so we can evaluate road conditions / traffic / terrain / altitude / OTR pricing) Kalyan/Ulhasnagar/Mumbai. Road conditions - Okay to BAD.
      10. Brand / Bike type preference (if any) - Honda (for durability and long life of engine) but we can go with Bajaj too coz it seems they have improved a lot.

I hope the above provides a good lot of information

PS: I read in a thread below mine that someone was questioning the durability of Pulsar 135LS. What do you guys think of that ?

Also, how does the Shine fare again Pulsar 135LS ? What are its deficits compared to Pulsar 135LS ?

Also, I just searched on the internet and came to know that CB Twister is a 110 cc bike. Is that going to be sufficient/good/worth it ? when compared to Shine (125 cc) and Pulsar (135 cc) ?

Tried 125ST? I think that's what you should be looking for! 135 would have been better if he has to take it to the highway often.

Spoke with him and he's not interested in any "Discovers" :P Lets see. We are also thinking of extending our budget a little and see if we can get our hands on a CBZ Extreme

Performance-wise, the P135 is the best machine among your shortlisted machines. But it might feel too cramped for a 6-footer.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!
