  • Apache RTR 180 ABS vs Pulsar 200 NS

    Hi Guys,

I'm a sales representative from Chennai. I've been using a Honda Shine from 2009. I want to upgrade to some 150 cc or above bike.

    1. Budget - Less than 1 Lakh

    2. Age - 28

    3. Height - 5 Feet 7 inches

    4. Weight - 68 KGs

    5. Intended usage - Field work in and around Chennai, occasional recreation riding

    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement - 30 or above as I ride fast, would like to ride faster

    7. City & Highway percentage usage - 90% City ride only

    8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running - 30-60 KMs per day ~ 1000-1500 KMs per month

    9. City / Town /Village of residence - Chennai Metro

    10. Brand / Bike type preference (if any) - I generally don't like Pulsars, but since 200NS has KTM engine, thought of giving it a shot. Liked Apache 160 RTR but I get back pain if I ride 50+ Kms in it, not sure about the ABS model though.

R15 and Duke are too sporty and may not be suitable for my job. I need some bike with good pickup, cornering and goes easy on the eyes. 200 NS seems to be a good choice, but in reviews they say about unnecessary vibrations, which makes me think twice. Also thought of CB Trigger, but it's got dazzler engine which my friend had and faced many problems. Heard FZs are badly built and I don't like their style.

Any help/inputs would be appreciated. Thanks...

Go for the 180ABS only if you are specifically looking for an ABS equipped bike under the 1lakh price bucket. I guess the NS should suit you perfectly as far as riding posture and ergonomics are concerned.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Thanks. Should I be worried about the vibrations in either of them? For NS some reviews are very good and some are very bad. Apache has got generally the same reviews. That's what's making me think again and again for NS.

NS is a good bike given that you complete the run in properly.....many friends in our group have ns. ....and they are running just nice without any problems whatsoever. ...

In terms of technology, NS is more advanced compared to the RTR. But mechanicals are mechanicals - and hence there will always be mechanical issues with every bike, let it be a Bajaj CT100 or a BMW K1600GTL. Keep any bike well-maintained and it will perform just fine.

So I can't go wrong with either one right? Are the previous generation Apache RTR 180's still available? I don't like the new ones save for the headlight and cowl.

You should be fine with both. Test ride each of them for a good amount of time and select the one that feels closer to your heart.
Luckily for you, old generation RTRs are back in production(only change being newer switch gears)

RTR would come into picture if you need ABS.
If you need power then what can be the answer between the two ?
Average wise both are almost close to each other.
TR both and see which one suits your req well.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I'll TR and will post the impressions soon..

The TVS Apache RTR is starting to be left behind by the contemporary looking rivals. The company has teased a new reskinned motorcycle.

If this is true then I'm going to wait for it..

Was in the same situation before some months, ended up picking up an apache after test drive.
Value for money is NS according to me.

NS is the VFM option, but I'd go for the RTR ABS, its a good buy. And btw why not consider P220???

                            In between these bikes...
If you want better braking go for apache abs
If power is your preferance go for p200ns.
                            My vote goes to 200Ns

Honestly I don't like the styling of 220. Naked look and the KTM engine are the only two things which made me think about a Pulsar per se. Thanks for the suggestion though

So 200 NS it is. Thanks all.
