  • Use of Kick start in some BS6 bikes

As my search on a good 150cc bikes is still on going, one of the features to be looked at is the availability of kick start in some BS6 bikes. Most of the BS6 bikes in this segment like Apache 160 4v, FZS v3, Gixxer 155 etc. do not have kick start but few bikes like Honda Xblade, Hero Xtreme are still providing the kick start. I initially thought it is an advantage to have a kick start in bike along with self start but later learnt that the kick start is stopped from these bikes as a safety measure. The introduction of Fuel injection technology and the use of ECU in the BS6 model that drives all other motors like (fuel pump etc.), if the power of 12v battery is down then the self start (in first place) does not work as it needs 12v and this will prevent the further operations of the bike as most of them are controlled by the ECU (electronic control unit). As a safety measure, the underpowered battery will not be further used by other motor devices in the bike. Now coming to my actual question, then why some BS6 bikes (like Xblade, Xtreme etc.) are still provided with kick start? Is it good to have or does it have any specific advantage? Can anyone please provide some clarity here?

Anybody any answers? Seriously considering if kick start is still an advantage in BS6 bikes and in which situation.

I read in one of Unicorn BS6 reviews that kick starter takes a few kicks to start the bike (vs instant start with button/motor assist).

I think few kicks are better to have when instant (or self) start doesn't work due to battery issue. That makes me think that few BS6 bikes still have kicker so that in case there is an issue with battery we can still kick start the bike to the service station.

The couple of advantages I can think is that when your bike had been lying around for a long time and battery might be low/down, in that case you can use the kick. Or if the starter/starter relay fails. I have had bikes with no kicks for the past 5 years. Once the starter failed, I pushed the bike and started.
