  • Cruiser vs Power tourer - Meteor vs Dominar 250

    Hi Guys,

Planning to buy a comfortable bike with good low end torque.
Intended usage is 70% city and 30% highways.
Ride quality (Cushy seat, plush suspensions), engine refinement and low end torque sit high in my priority list.
While the twisties and lane changing are lowest in priority.

I like laid back riding while enjoying the views and breeze on my face. My sweet spot for cruising is around 80kmph or less.
Torquey engine ensures the bike doesn't struggle during low city speeds and traffic.
I don't care about the style of the bike (cruiser, tourer, adventure tourer, commuter) as long as I get a relaxed riding stance and stress free engine for a non-stop 150KM ride (sometimes with pillion).
I also dont care about 0-100 figures but I do care about 0-40 timing (low end torque again)

I test drove meteor and liked it. Good engine, that settles down nicely and doesn't push you to rev hard. Vibration free (at least in my comfort speed zone), good suspensions and comfortable riding posture..
None of the bajaj dealers near me are offering test ride of Dominar 250.
Though both the bikes belong to different segment. From my eyes, both provide relaxed riding posture and good low end torque. Dominar is cheaper.
Wanted to understand from you guys who have ridden both. What's the difference in overall feel of the ride between the two?

    Thanks in advance

      Hi Aditya,

Royal Enfield Meteor & Bajaj Dominar 250. Are two completely different breed I would say. I have ridden both the bikes. Understanding that your requirements. I would suggest Meteor for you.

      Bajaj Dominar 250

Its a beautiful bike. I loved the red colour. Its a good refined bike. I loved the way how it picked up in the city. The linear power delivery is wonderful. Unlike my duke, when you twist the throttle of the dominar 250 that feel and the exhaust note is beautiful. The bike is heavy and stable. The seat cushioning is comfortable. The position is slightly leaning forward. Can be done with bar raisers. You can tour on it as well as commute on it. Mileage stands around 30kmpl, owner experience.

      RE Meteor 350

Wonderful cruiser. The engine is much more refined compared to the older ones and RE has now made is a great make through. The seating position is very relaxed and seat is as soft as a cake. I have ridden it in traffic conditions as well. Both pillion and rider seat is comfortable. The ride quality of meteor is superb and I loved the bike from RE. City commuting would be seamless as far as I know and you can clock good kms at a stretch. The bike is that comfortable. It has a good top end speed well. Exhaust note is music for ears. Instruments cluster is good. Now offers navigation as well. Mileage is around 35 kmpl easily i believe. Overall it actually gives you a very premium feel.

Overall my personal pick would be Meteor over the Dominar 250.

Test ride the bike before you buy. Thats a must

        Hi 7thRider,

        Thanks for your response.

I too believe you should always test ride before you buy a bike.
As there is always more to the bike than revealed by the spec sheet. Its about the experience.

I currently own Pulsar RS 200 but I admit, I bought it for its looks and spec sheet in 2015. But the numbers on spec sheet never translated to the real world experience.
it was sluggish in low speeds and in top gear it never felt relaxed.

When I took test ride of Meteor this is one thing I liked, I could be in 3rd gear and cruise at 30 or 60 without the bike asking for a gear change or increased revs.
And like you mentioned, seat comfort is I think best in class. Both for rider and pillion.

I booked the meteor on 3rd March

But then again I read about reviews of Honda Highness and it made me rethink, if I made a right decision. Today, I went to Honda big wing show room just to get that itch out of my head. In my heart, I was going there to prove to myself that I made a right choice with Meteor.

After the test ride, I was really happy with my decision to go with meteor. The tall gearing demanded frequent gear shifts in city and engine was eager to be revved and was not happy staying in lower gears. Thats not how I want to ride my bike. Seats are also not as good a meteor for long rides.

Sure, the build quality and fit and finish are top notch and it comes with reliability of Honda but it didnt put the
smile on my face like Meteor did.
