    So I'm looking to buy my first bike. I'm upgrading from a 110 cc scooter with 40000 kilometers of road riding experience (Going from point a to point b). The motorcycle will hopefully be one to enable me to experience the full joy of motorcycle riding. Depending on how I value the motorcycle riding experience, (and also if my career growth permits the budget) I'm looking to upgrade to a 650 or 1litre bike within 5 to 10 years from now

    Currently looking at a 70/30 to 50/50 split between city and highway riding, flexible depending on the number of highway trips I make a month. As of now, not looking at the track and my city doesn't have a dedicated track, but it's not something I have fully ruled out and may look at it in the future.

    The bikes I've shortlisted ( budget 2 to 3lakhs) but still undecided which one to go for.

    Dominar 400: this is my first choice cause of the versatility and value for money it offers. Checks all the boxes on paper. I am apprehensive about reliability issues but the closest bikes that match the performance cost around 70k more and I think the additional 70k along with warranties should cover major reliability issues through periodic maintenance and also fuel my rides and accessories. Also I like its look the most

    Duke 390: Probably the most versatile bike on this list, but it's also on the upper end of my budget. It is probably as value for money as the dominar for what it offers. I'm a bit apprehensive about the city heating issues, the uncontrollable power delivery, high speed stability and pillion comfort. Since it's about 70k more upfront, I wouldn't want to get it unless it's a vastly superior experience.

    Gixxer naked/sf 250. My wallet is very happy. I probably would have gone for this if it looked more angry and intimidating. I feel it looks very simple and it's a big let down for me. The Sf Solved the looks department to an extent but in general I prefer the looks of naked bikes. Also I'm not sure if it will feel underpowered a year or two down the line.

    Apache RR 310: I'm not so inclined towards faired bikes cause I feel they look a bit overkill on the roads. I'm also not sure if I'll like the more aggressive ride position for long distance runs, for me or the pillion

    Ninja 300 (sadly no z300 yet): will be stretching my budget both upfront and maintenance to a point where I don't want it to go, so I'm considering it only if it will be far superior than the others as an overall experience

    G310 r: I am put off by the maintenance costs. Also my city currently doesn't have a bmw service centre or showroom. And it doesn't seem to offer anything more when compared to the duke 390 other than the bmw badging.

      Hey Prakash, I'm not an expert in motorbikes or I know about where you are in your career and your current financial situation apart from your budget and aspirations, but I do think since you are coming off a 110cc scooter, you should start with something easier to get you started with your motorbike experience. I would stay away from Duke 390 considering the insane power it offers and also since you want to use it for city around 50-70%, and Duke 390 heats up a lot in the city. Dominar is good, has a lot of power and good for touring but the main problem is the weight and not easy to handle in the city traffic. If you can handle the weight you can for it but again not really an ideal bike to begin your motorbike experience. I would suggest choosing Gixxer SF250 and use it for a couple of years until you upgrade to 650 or 1litre a few years down the line. They are easy to handle, has enough power for highways for someone coming from 110cc scooter. It is better to upgrade step by step so you can experience the range and handle the bike. Rest of the bikes you have mentioned are not a good beginner bikes in my opinion

        70/30 to 50/50 on any of the motorcycles is doable. all bikes can be taken on the highway these days but 'how comfortably' is the question. Any reason for completely ruling out the REs?

          RE out of question due to Reliability issues, maybe?
          Also, the listed bikes suggest that OP isn't looking for retro/classic/cruiser bikes

            I second your opinion.

            And, if you don't shy away from used bikes, you can find a good deal on these saving cost and risk exposure of making a wrong choice.
