FZ is very smooth.. But I seriously feel it lacks power.............. After riding the ZMA, whenever I ride a FZ16, I feel im riding a TVS XL............So, may be after riding R1, if u ride FZ16, u will feel u r riding a Bicycle..............Still, I think you should test ride the bike and see if suits you.......

Why not a ThunderBird? I feel its one of the best tourers around....

And as said ZMA / P220 would the other options...

Actually in that case, P200 would do the job. Its a bajaj so long term refinement etc issues will stay.

But the darn thing doesn't flinch.

And my own P180 didn't even need to be touched and rode on like normal! But the oils and refinement and general service issues leave much to be desired.

I find the p220 very comfortable for long rides Leh route is quire comfortable, did it recently in a Santro!! (ahve done it on a p150 earlier).
the FZ16 is a great choice too as it is comfortable to ride quite light in case u have to push it though water and nifty.

Also the route to leh via manali rotang would be closed u need a snow-scooter to cross it.
The route via srinagar would also have alot of snow so not sure if u should travel now wait for June.
