  • Planning to move from my Pulsar 200NS to a Kawasaki z650

Hi, i have been riding a Pulsar 200NS since 2014 now and last three years with my wife as pillion. I am planning to move to a bigger engine now (though have no prior experience with larger engines) I have been eyeing at z650 for some time now and i could go with it with it in next three months if everything fits in.

but before I take this big decision, I wanted to get a feedback from others who have done such a transition themselves whether I should really make the jump based on my driving style described below.

I like riding but haven't done trips longer than 400 km at a stretch, my bike itself hasn't crossed 30k even as of today, and with last two years, I could only ride for ~1k km.
I am not a person who customises their ride as such and really keep it stock all the way, apart from some basics like better engine oil, tyres etc eventually.
I use my bike for mostly commute and go on long trips on monthly basis, and love opening the throttle every now and then even on my daily commute. My current bike is still in excellent condition in terms of smoothness and performance (as you could have guessed based on limited usage and timely maintenance)

should I go for a 650cc bike or perhaps use my current bike longer to add more km to my ride portfolio?

If you are unsure about wether you need a new bigger bike then imo you should continue enjoying the NS for a bit longer. While you do it go and get test drives of the bikes you have in mind.I would suggest adding the versys and vstorm to your list as both these are potent mile munchers for touring and more suited for it than the z650 imo.

You should also check out the new ADVs from KTM and Yezdi unless your heart is set on a twin cylinder.

200 to 650 is a minor jump... that being said, it'll be good for you to do multiple test rides if available and check your comfort factor on the bike...

THanks all, i am still with my ns200, but the itch has returned. I test rode multiple bikes, and i think I am going to finalise one between verysys, z650 or bmw 310 GS. Different categories, different purposes, the latter two could act well as daily commuters. practicality points me to the 310 GS the most, but would continue to explore more. I have realised over last 18 months or so, the itch to purchase could be controlled, but with that control I am also losing on the time. My perspective of enjoyment might change in next ten years so better do it now when I feel that I want to do it.

Hopefully will update this thread soon with the final decision i make.

If you feel confident after a test ride and believe the Z650 will enhance your riding experience, it could be a worthwhile upgrade. However, if you're content with your Pulsar and can manage your riding needs, it might be wise to keep it a bit longer while gaining more quordle experience
