  • Buying a used big bike. Need suggestions.

Hello everyone. I'm planning to buy a used big bike around 5 lakhs. A Harley Davidson was always on my mind. To start with I've a few questions, hope I can get some answers.

    - Is it a good idea to buy an old Harley 2011-13, 14 in India given Harley is no longer in India on its own wrt spare parts?
    - How hard is it to get serviced in Bangalore, and approximate service and frequently changed spare parts cost .
    - Are these new harleys as reliable as any other bike?
    - What can be a good alternative to harley?

when buying a big bike, especially second hand, look for below points

      1. Ample availability of spare parts
      2. Freedom to buy parts off the service center counter instead of being forced to get your vehicle serviced there

In my experience, Harley does not have shortage of parts availability but they have come under attack for really cheap cost cutting, with poor parts quality.

Equivalently, Benelli is also a big culprit here with overpriced spares that do not last any longer than the cheaper aftermarket, including them refusing to sell you the parts over counter. My recommendations ? Avoid.

Honda has been the best followed by Kawasaki. You should be able to get a nicely priced Kawasaki 650 for under 5 Lakhs if you look a bit.

Do NOT buy a non-ABS big bike of any brand - ABS became standard from 2017 model year onwards -across all big bike brands - all the non ABS big bikes are selling way below their ABS models
