  • Planning to upgrade from Yamaha FZ 150

    Hello Fellow xbhpinas,

Needed your inputs on possible upgrades to my Yamaha FZ.

Factors to be considered are as below

    1. Higher than 150 cc. Lesser than 500 cc (Capping the budget at 2 lakhs on-road)

    2. Good commuter. I travel about 25 kms everyday at an average. Occasional short trips.

    3. Decent mileage (Living with Yamaha FZ. Anything that would meet it's mileage)

    4. Need to have a good, comfortable pillion seat (One big drawback in Yamaha FZ)

    Looking forward for your inputs.

    Cheers!!

Please mention your Budget. Some considerations

      Pulsar 200 NS

+ New tech. Most advanced bike under a lakh
      + Handling
      + Style
      - New Tech, unproven territory
      - Build is all plastic including tank
      - Niggles as with every new bike

      CBR250R/CBR150R

+ The Best sports bike south of 2 lakh
      + Power and engine
      + Quality
      - Costly compared to Duke

      Classic 350, 500, TB,

+ Its an enfield which means respect, cult following, smile from fellow enfield riders (What else you need )
      - Weight and gear change
      - Build quality
      - Waiting period

      Duke 390/200

+ Best handler in town. Even small gap in traffic is enough.
      + Super bike build quality
      + Unique
+ Eats corners for breaskfast, lunch and dinner
      - Less pillion comfort

      Karizma ZMR

+ Its honda engine with hero comfort.
+ Where you turn there is a hero service center.
      - Hard to ride in traffic
      - Poor head light

      Pulsar 220f

+ A proper upgrade to pulsar 150 in same family.
      + Touring capabilities.
      + Head light
      - All pulsar niggles are present
      - Bajaj service is gamble

Re: Planning to upgrade from Yamaha FZ 150

Considering your budget of under 2 lakh..
CBR 250-abs seems to be the best bet..
has a good reputation of a daily commuter as well as a tourer..
And to to mention the seats are comfortable for both the rider and the pillion..
Buying another 150cc doesn't count as an upgrade.. Get a bigger cc bike this time..
also you can try Duke 390..

        Ride safe and have fun.
        Regards

Though I'm a very new Biker I would recommend you to go with CBR 250R. I bought this Bike as my first bike and its proper for the purposes you have mentioned.

As you have been a Yamaha rider you can't compromise with build quality like Bajaj and RE. Obviously personal choice matters. Price for CBR 250R is 1.85L or 2.2 for ABS.

Senthil has given you the list. Take a test ride of each and buy the one that you think is the best for you.

Re: Planning to upgrade from Yamaha FZ 150

FZ is also know for it's excellent handling, braking, comfort etc...
The only bike which i see in same league to be happy is best handling/brake etc is Duke any model. But the consequences is it's small pillion seats.
But you can mod it with some cusion to some extend.

              Else P220/NS200 is also good.

But the thing you get in Duke, FZ, R15, GT etc you can't get it in others... i.e handling and brake.
Though this matters to some rough rider by choice..
