  • apache rtr 160 worth the money?

Hi guys, I am planning to buy a bike in the next one week. My eyes are firmly set on the apache rtr 160. the following are my usage patterns:
    daily commute: 50km approx
about 70% of it is city riding.
    mileage expected: 45+
    no long trips.
    age: 19
    height: 6ft
    city: bangalore.
regular service will be done and i dont revv the bike a lot.
what i expect from apache 160 is minimum maintainence cost with regular servicing as i dont want to spend 85k on the bike and end up with lots of problems in the bike. I am not looking for top end in the bike, my max speed would be 80-85kmph.
with all the above conditions will the apache 160 last me about 6-8 years without any major issues?? this will also be my first and last bike for sure so i want to buy a good one.

I initially considered the yamaha fz as well but seeing the mileage figures of 40 avg, i dropped it.

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

For pure city riding (since you have mentioned no long trips) an Apache will be a good machine but considering your height, the apache may feel a bit cramped. I'd suggest you look at machines from the Honda or HMC stable which will suit your height better. The only way to find out would be test rides!

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

6 feet?? do test ride and decide regarding the comfort. My friend who is 6 feet doesnt feel comfortable with my bike's sitting position(but he is over weight though). He got himself a P180. So keep P180 as an option. Its more comfortable for tall riders.
And "6-8 years"!!! it would be more than a lakh KMs. I Dont know any one who own the bike that long. But I have completed 50K Kms and almost 4 years. Only major work done was head cleaning and valve change(around 2000/-). Rest things- Sprocket(around 850/-) change twice, rear break pads(350/-) thrice, front break pads(350/-) twice. Clutch cable twice and accelerator cables thrice.
Rest all are regular maintenance(engine oil every 2500 Kms, oil filter every 5000 kms)....

I am riding RTR 160 since 4 yrs.
Regarding maintenance I got approx NIL.
            Mileage - 50 to 55 kmpl (100% city usage)
Regarding height I am 5-9 and feel no problem, but you just take a test ride first.

Re: apache rtr 160 worth the money?

thanks for the replies and views everyone. I took a test ride of apache 160, pulsar 150.
i fit in perfectly in the apache and din feel cramped and liked the riding position. The only drawback would be the very stiff front suspension and the shift to fifth gear isnt as smooth as the other gears. the engine response was brilliant.
the pulsar 150's gearshift were smooth all the way through but din like the response from the engine, it was just ordinary. Most probably i will be going for the apache 160 in the next 2-3 days. the onroad price in bangalore is 82,200
will go to the honda showroom tom to test the dazzler etc.
the yamaha people did not have a test ride of the fz-s
