    Presently I have booked DS500. But my vote goes to KTM390 because of immense power,43 bhp for a single cylinder bike and reliability. You should go for KTM.
    Riding a bike is like doping, you cant spend a day without doing it.

        After looking at the horrors of the Duke 390s, i guess we can now say that current Enfields are more reliable than KTMs.
        So make your choice.

          I am not sure about the KTM's horror shows, but, they produce one of the best bikes in the industry. Yes, there are some niggles, but then which bike or machine doesn't. There isn't a single bike out there that does not have a problem. The main thing is whether that niggle is taken care of and whether the bike remains reliable or not.

          Yes you are right r.e's are more reliable these days and I can find mechanics easily for it.but they have lots of minor niggles too.yesterday my dad's friend told me that he faced a lot of problem in his new classic 350.he has to visit service centre regularly and also he told me that like every r.e. service centre is like a hell.
          In case of duke I think it won't happen as I know a good mechanic who is well trained with yamaha and can fix small issues of duke 390 but he is not a permanent solution.I am talking to the M.D. of the rajpath ktm today that if he is really opening a showroom nearby otherwise my money goes to Desert storm.
          And one thing I forgot to mention they told me that I will get home service as most of thier buyers are not from bhubaneswar and they are already providing this service to the duke 200 and ninja 300 owners.But I think its not worthy though:screwy:
          Both the bike you are comparing is really worlds apart. They have different engines, characters... everything is different. If you are finding both of them to be equally appealing, then D390 is a much better product. However, the current crop of REs have better quality than their older counterparts.
          Now, from practicality perspective, you have yourself said that it would be very difficult to get a mechanic if you face any problems with a KTM. There is so much tech-wizardry in place that someone who has not worked on this type of bike will not be able to do anything. So my suggestion would be for you to get a KTM only if you have a reliable mechanic near you else go for DS, its one hell of a bull.

            Some of the issues reported by 390 owners are indeed serious and I think they will be addressed as the product matures. But we should all remember that people with problems post on the forums more often then people who are happy owners. In short these forums are not be used as a scientific study to label a product as bad, just means to understand what are the most prevalent issues with a particular bike.

            I am D390 owner and its been a great experience so far. Makes me getup early on a Sunday to go on a ride I know quite a few D390 owners who have clocked 1000s of kms and they are all happy with their purchases as well.

            Make your own choice based on what appeals to you. Buying a bike is more about passion that it invokes in you than applying common sense imo

              sorry for OT.

              yesterday i heard this. a guy wants to sell his 2002 model bullet electra 4 speed, at Rs 90000. i was shocked. a brand new costs only Rs 110000. His reply was, THIS IS BULLET...

              so what? a 12 year old bike with 40000 kms odo.... does it not got IDV? every vehicle got a depreciation. isnt?

              sorry, i have never liked this bullet shit. what are you getting for that much money? thump, i guess...no technology, no power, no mileage, crappy maintenance.

                I'd advise you to go for the desert storm. Since the nearest Ktm svc is 250 kms from your place it will be very tough to go there for so many problems the 390s are giving.
                You can get minor niggles fixed by local mechanics for a RE but they would not be able to help you with the Ktm. So it would be a wise decision to go with the desert storm

                  I was very disappointed when i came to know about the Duke's tin-metal Rims, as i was planning for purchasing a Duke someday.
                  A lot of Duke users have complained about the 390's rims shattering when it goes through a pothole. Well, for me its very unreliable - because life is at stake !!
                  Rims of our good old Indian bikes, do get bent on extreme pressures, but shattering / breaking into pieces? Thats a big quality flaw!!
