  • Choosing my Second Bike Duke 200 vs R15 vs Pulsar 200

I'm finding a hard time in choosing my second bike. I've ridden R15 version 1.0 in the past.

I would like to purchase my second bike. I love touring and drifting along the city at a high speed. So i need a mid-ranged power bike. I've fixated on Duke 200 but i've heard it gives a meagre mileage of just 15-20 KMPL instead of 30-35 (City) they claim. I've test driven Duke and fell in love with it. I would definitely go for it if not for my mileage and service concerns.

My major problem is KTM service center isn't located nearby where i live. It is located 200 KMS away in another city. I guess, a new service center maybe established in 6 months, not sure. I can't afford it unless it gives me a mileage of atleast 25-30 KMPL in city. Any owners? Please help.

Another thing is, I'm 5.7, 60 KGS. Which bike suits me? I owned R15 in the past (Version 1), it perfectly suits, but the new version has got a split seat, so i am a bit skeptical. I am also considering Pulsar 200 NS and CBR 150R.

If you love duke go for it without giving mileage a second thought. It easily gives you upwards of 30kmpl. If you ride with a controlled wrist it might even surprise you by giving around 40kmpl in city.
Highways, expect 35-45kmpl depending on the way you ride.
Btw, who told you the fuel economy is 15-20kmpl?

R15 is also a very good bike but since you have already owned one try something different. The duke won't disappoint you with the fun it has to offer.

Spare parts availability is fine where I am from and regarding service centres it depends. There are people here who have had a horrible experience with the svcs and then there are some for whom the probiking svcs have been really good. It all depends on whether you are able to find a good mechanic. I fall in the latter category.

If svc is 200 kms away and your daily riding is too much then I would suggest you to think before you buy.
If you are sure a svc is coming up in the next 6 months then go for duke.
Else yamaha if they have a svc near your place.

Re: Choosing my Second Bike Duke 200 vs R15 vs Pulsar 200

@gauthamnekk With the options you have considered above, let me just tell in short about each of them with my experience. . .

Duke 200: Simply the best street machine, I know that it might give you less fuel efficiency compared to others but still it's simply the best. . .

R15 v2: As you had already been riding one, I don't think I need to say much about it, another good option but for touring, as they said not so comfortable and also as you had one v1 previously, it's better to go for something else. . .

Pulsar 200NS: A totally different breed of pulsar, what they claimed as the best pulsar ever but according to me it's good but not the best. . . For those who have budget issues for buying a Duke 200, the 200NS is a good option, it does have good fuel efficiency and there are some minor glitches which you need to ask with the NS owners. . .

CBR150R: Personally my favorite bike, . . As you have been riding R15, this is like one step forward than R15 in terms of performance. . . This is comfortable for tours, gives good fuel efficiency, has the looks and other things you need, it's an awesome machine and the only place where you suffer with it is in thick traffic as it has taller gearing, you need to change the gear very often. . .

            Make a good choice. . .

PS: Apart from this, if you are interested and if you are ready to wait for some time then there are many other bikes that is coming on it's way, like the latest spied upgraded which Karizma which they say as Karizma 250, also spied Bajaj Pulsar375, Duke RC250/RC390 (RC250 also I feel it's gonna come but RC390 is for sure) and many others, so if you can wait for some time, it would be good for you as you will have loads of options. . .

            Cheers!!!

Re: Choosing my Second Bike Duke 200 vs R15 vs Pulsar 200

I own a duke 200 and am completely satisfied with its performance and fuel effieciency.
It gives me mileage of around 35-40kmpl in city and 40-47 on highway. Ocasionally 50kmpl during long runs (as shown on cluster)..
Mileage is completely depending on your right wrist.

If you want a more comfortable ride then go for CBR150 else R15 V2 is the better option as it is quicker than CBR150, handling is superb and its a looker too.
If you can go for Duke200 then you will forget R15 and CBR150.

I have seen a drag race between 7 bikes and here is the result.

                Ninja 250 > CBR 250 > Duke200 > Pulsar 200ns > Pulsar 220f > R15 V2 > CBR150

Go for Duke 200, it's the best bike for city riding in India right now. You'll easily get mileage of 35 in city if you ride it sanely. I am about to buy one too, just waiting for Highway Bajaj to start servicing Duke here.

About the 200NS, it's poor man's Duke (No offense to any NS owner)
                  I am back!
