  • purchasing a new scooty, need help

hey guys my sister wants to purchase a new scooty, which one should i go for?
i am from mumbai, dont have any idea about scooty as i own 200ns :P
comfort and mileage may be top priority and then looks and pick up.
ride quality also should be good, she'll be riding around 40-50 only.
yamaha ray z and tvs wego she short listed.
can some one tell me how reliable it is, service centres and all?
taking a TD will only tell us about the ride quality, but i dont want any hick ups with the engine or something after few months or years.
honda dio is cool too, but honda has 2 months waiting period. where as tvs has on the spot delivery if full payment is done, or else 7-8 days. and 12 days with yamaha ray z.
vespa i feel is not worth. and if any other good scootys available then please suggest?
we'll go to book in a day or 2

The Ray is a good choice. You may also look at the newly launched Activa-i.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Choose between activa i or Ray z.. activa i has some waiting periods since it is a new launch.

Why haven't you thought of the Rodeo/Duro/Flyte ?
Front fuel filler is the greatest advantage of the Mahindra Scooters. Since it is used by your sister, it would be easy and these have got the best dicky space, for handbags, helmets and other knick-knacks.

And, inspite of their initial debacle with their bikes, MM scooters are definitely world class. Also, since these are 125cc, you will not miss the thrill even if you go on a one off ride. And, the scooters are cheaper than competition and immediate delivery.
Test ride the Rodeo (Chocolate Brown color, if I can take the liberty of suggesting)....
Suzuki Access/Swish - Very good bikes, but a little on the heavier side.
Honda Activa - You just can't go wrong with this but be prepared for waiting periods
Honda Activa-i - Not to everyone's taste, unless they are keen on only a Honda machine.
Honda Dio (New) - I loved the design, again, waiting periods are unknown.
Honda Aviator - Too bulky. Not sure of waiting periods, however, the same engine that powers the Activa and Dio.
TVS Wego - Body Balance is a great feature, however, I have heard of some reports of unreliability (I have neither checked out, nor ridden this, so, only posting what I heard).
Yamaha Ray/RayZ - I couldn't see anything special in what these offer.
Mahindra Rodeo/Duro/Flyte - Same engine, same features, just different looks. ASC might be a problem in some places.
Vespa - I would suggest one, only if you have the money to splurge, or if you are very status conscious. I feel this is too overpriced to be considered a normal scooter.

I guess there are no more scooters in the Market AFAIK. Please however, make sure both you and your sister take a test ride of each and then come to a conclusion.

thanks a lot every one for your help
dint consider mahindra cause of the services and never really heard of it, none of my friends or relatives own it. so dint want to take a chance.
today went with my sis to check out vespa and yamaha ray z and took td
yamaha engine was super smooth, took it till 45kmph only, as the ride was in city
vespa engine was smooth too, but i dint feel any major pick up difference against the rayz 125 vs 113 cc
vespa even has some irritating sound from the exhaust after 20kmph.
on road price of yamaha rayz 58700 with 10-15 days delivery, vespa lx around 77000 and vx around 81.5k with 10-15 delivery time and vespa dint include any accessories like bike cover mud guard
              yamaha includes everything.
so sis has made up her mind, shes going to book ray z tomorrow.
thanks alot everyone for your help.

I would say you would go with the wego(Driven it many time).I like it over activa.I haven't driven the Ray series yet.since your sister is not gonna do a power drive the wego would be more comfortable.More advantages are the body balance and the very low end torque. You will also be getting a clear FE of 52+.The spares are of good price and a lot of service centres out there compared to Yamaha(Referring to chennai)
