  • ktm duke 200 or yamaha r15 v2

    Hi guys,
I want to buy a bike for city commute and touring once in every 2 or 3 months
My height is 5'10 and my budget is 1.5lakhs
I am really confused between Yamaha r15v2 and ktm duke 200
I have test ridden both. R15 is less powered compared to duke otherwise i like its performance and handling is also good
when I had a ride on my friends duke 200
i felt heat from engine on my legs is it normal in that bike

    Give your suggestions guys
    Thanks

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

For City riding, undoubtedly the Duke wins hands down. It's very sporty, flick-able and powerful. It will also server the purpose of short distance touring once in a while.

If you are looking for long distance touring, none of the two would serve the purpose - the R15 would be too forward-crouched for comfort, and the Duke being a naked bike, it will make you fatigued with windblast and it's stiff suspension. Let me be very clear - I am not saying that the R15/Duke "can't" be used for touring - there are people here who have taken R15s and Dukes for 1000+ km rides and on to the untimate frontier - Leh. Do look at the other options available which would serve you better - Look for the ZMR - a perfect tourer with a tested, trusted engine. You can also CBR150 which has better ergonomics compared to R15 and Duke, else, if budget permits, hop onto the a non-ABS CBR250 for 20K more.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

            ktm duke 200 or yamaha r15 v2

I had r15 v1 for 3 years and now i have duke 200. Both r very differnt bikes. Yes r15 is less powerfull compared to duke, but you have to keep it in mind that r15 is a 4 year old bike and if you are still compairing it with latest bikes like duke really tell you how much good it is.
R15 has more of a relaxed engine characterstics ,whereas duke has angry and frantic engine. Handling wise according to me both are the same. Brakes wise both bikes are very capable, duke has more front bite the but its rear fishtails sometimes(its kind of fun now) and you should know how to control it.
As u told that you are not worried about avg,but both bike can easily give you between 35-40kmpl.
According to me duke is a step up from r15.one has to be a lil bit more mature as a rider to explore all capabilities of duke. I don't like cbr250 dat much(just my views) because i didn't feel conected to the bike, n thats a imortant thing for me when i buy i bike.
Everything that i have said above are purely my views. Would you to take a test ride again see for yourself which bike suits you more.

Good for you.. Decided without getting much confused..
R15 is not suited for city rides.. Where you would be using the bike mostly.. I owned the v1 and now my brother owns v2, i can vouch for D200 as per your requirements..
                ride safe..

                Ride safe and have fun.

Confused between Duke 200 and Yamaha R15

So my initial plan was to purchase a TVS Apache 180 ABS but I had drop the plan since my mom felt like the bike is not that safe ( Because of many accidents she seen with Apache RTRs )

Now I am considering Duke 200 and Yamaha R15.. I like both bikes for different features

For now what I am confused about is mileage, one of my friend who have Duke 200 says his mileage is only around 30 :| But here in our forums I found so many reported much better FE. Some say it depends on how we drive the Duke !!

Can someone who own Duke put some light into this ? please..

What is the mileage on city ride and highways for Duke 200 and which speed range we should keep it for better mileage !!

Re: Confused between Duke 200 and Yamaha R15

If you commute in heavy city traffic, you will not like the R15. It will also be not comfortable at slower speeds since it has forward leaned riding position. But if you ride in the highways, the R15 will feel quite good, you won't feel any pain in the wrists/back as the air pressure at higher speeds(above 80kph) will support you and your muscles will be less strained. You will have lesser windblast than you would on the Duke. Also R15 is much less powered than the Duke.

If your riding % in city is greater than that on the highways, get the duke, otherwise get the R15, an even better option would be the CBR 250 if you can stretch your budget.

Re: ktm duke 200 or yamaha r15 v2

My duke is 3 month old, done 7600 km...many trips to shimla and 2 trips to manali from chandigarh. Average in chandigarh 30 kmpl..and sometime I got 40kmpl if drive properly. Above 120 you will get windblast but cruising at 100 is good on thus bike.
