  • Please suggest a budget commute bike with good stability and breaking.

    Hello!

I am new around here and to the bike world! I have never owned a bike but have a little riding experience on borrowed bikes.

My college is about 25KMs from my home and I want a cheap commute. Here are the details:

    1. Budget: about 40-60k
    2. Age: 18-24
    3. Height: 5 feet 11 inches
    4. Weight: 77 Kgs
    5. Intended usage: College commute
    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement: The best I can get
    7. City & Highway percentage usage: 50-50
    8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running: About 1000KMs per months
    9. City of residence: Jaipur
    10. Bike type preference: I would like a very stable bike that remains in control and breaks(decelerates) on demand.

I apprecite you efforts to answers.

    Thank you!

the best bet for you would be Discover 100, which is for around 46k.. excellent mileage and relatively good performance in its segment..

PS.. if you could provide the budget range, that would help a lot..

        Ride safe and have fun.

Given the conditions, PLATINA & Discover, hands down. Do not expect mileage from scooters. A hardcore xBhpian tourer @hhsplendor has done some hardcore riding/touring on his Platina.

You are tall. The bike that would give you max comfort is Ignitor. Plus, it being a hero, you can expect a trouble free ownership. It is about 2k above your budget though.

Go for Yamaha YBR 125 or Honda Shine. You can also look @ Suzuki Hayate.

The Discover 100/125ST or CB Shine would be good choices with greater preference on the Shine for its butter-smooth engine and excellent low-end pulling power. Opt for Disc brakes wherever possible.

Thank you chaosaddict for tagging me

Platina 125 is discontinued which I'm using ..
                  In 100-110cc
I liked the Hero passion Xpro over Honda twister . Xpro is not atall comparable with old passion + or pro ..
Liked : sharp handling , nice topend speed for 110cc, very good mileage of 60+ kmpl in city while normal riding , 55-56+ kmpl while maintaining 90% of throttle ..

If you want you can go for old and proved Hero glamour or honda shine ..
Among them glamour is the comfortable one but shine got 2ps extra power ..
                  Bajaj : discover 100, discover 100 st , discover 125 dtsi , platina 100

Platina 100 : Old workhouse , no disk , no self start awesome mileage of 80kmpl mostly chepest in lot 42k rs
Bajaj discover 100: new dtsi with good amount of power and looks , nice electricals ,self start
Bajaj discover 100st: most powerfull in 100cc
Bajaj discover 125 dtsi: 11ps of power with 60kmpl mileage ..

Sportiest in these segment : Stunner & ignitor
Hero Ignitor got nice power delivery with good looks and comfortable seats , nice headlight o/p (this has also 35/35watt halo) and Hero reliability as searching for stunner parts was too tough for me ..
Choice is yours , take test rides and then make your choice ..

                    Thanks for the reply guys!

I did some research and I have these three bikes. All of them are around 60k.

                    Honda CB Shine
                    Bajaj Discover 125ST
                    Hero Igniter

What are the pros and cons?

You have put the bikes in correct ordering.

CB Shine - Refinement, Comfort, Mileage
                      Discover - Style, Comfort, Mileage
Igniter - Can't say about this.

                      Take a TD and decide.

                        hi
I am in same situation a month back to choose my first bike to commute with same requirements which u have.

                        I had selected Ignitor.

And in this one month i am feeling happy with my decision.
Comfortable, powerful, looks sexy (white color), Mileage i got max 55 up to now in city with full traffic (done 400 km) i am sure i am in learning stage and i can improve the mileage.

                        i don't know anything about Discoverer 125ST.

I feel (personally) Ignitor is better than Shine in power, comfort and looks.
Reliability i don't know which is more reliable.

I believe both Hero and Honda are reliable.

Being a college goer I suggest you go for Igniter or Discover 125ST.
Discover is the most powerful of the three, having power almost equal to a 150cc bike.

Igniter will have an upper edge in terms of refinement, ride comfort, long term reliability, Digital meter console and mileage equal if not above Discover.
