  • Help with first bike

    Hi all,

I'm planning to go for a new bike and would appreciate some advice. I've zeroed in on some options based on online research, but I'm not sure if they're right for me. I've read the posting guidelines and I'm putting down my details in that format:

    Usage: Daily commute to office
Distance: 17 km (one way) and I'll be riding with a pillion most of the times.
Conditions: City (80% of my commute will be on the Link Road from Dahisar to Malad (Mumbai)
Budget: Upto 65 thousand (can be stretched if its worth it)
Brand/Bike Type: Any. Honda / Hero preferred (Haven't heard good things about Bajaj in the long run, so this wouldn't be a priority)
    Fuel Efficiency requirement: 55-60
    Age: 28
    Height: 5'10"
Weight: 55 (about the same weight for the pillion)

Based on my requirements, I zeroed in on the Honda CB Twister (110cc) through online research and it seemed perfect for me.

Upon talking to a friend however, he advised against this and said I should go for something with more power (150cc); something like a Honda Unicorn or Hero Xtreme. He said it'll give me better stability for when I do ride the highways (due to the weight) and also good pulling power in general, since I'll be riding with a pillion.

I'd like to know if this argument is valid in favor of a higher powered bike considering that I'll be shelling out about 15 thousand more with reduced fuel efficiency figures.

Any insight on these factors to give me clarity would be of great help. Feel free to recommend any other bikes if you see fit.

    Thanks
    Mirage

Twister is not very good as far as pillion comfort is concerned. Also, the rear tyre is very thin. Add to that vibrations above 60kmph+ and Honda ASS. Better substitutions will be 1. SS 125. Better road presence. Comfortable for even long rides. Very smooth engine and reliable too. Initial pickup is not the best in class though. 2. Hayate. Competitively priced and reliable. Smooth as well. You'll have to live with drum brakes though.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.
