  • A complete noob seeking advice for his first bike

My account has finally been validated

Hey! My name is Sashank, 20 years old and I live in Bangalore. Basically im a complete noob when it comes to bikes. I drive my dads swift around a bit, but that's about it. No one in my family owns a bike (or ever has i think :P). My parents think riding a bike is too risky and unsafe, but I finally managed to convince them to buy a bike for me (sick of public transport XP), but i need some help regarding this matter.
I dont really want to buy a scooter. Anyways, a couple of questions first!

->How easy is it to get the hand-foot-eye coordination and a smooth gear shift?

->Im pretty much set on buying a 150cc bike-Is this advisable or is a 125cc bike a better option?

->My dad said he'd get me a brand new bike as opposed to a second hand one, so im a little apprehensive about messing up the clutch and the gearbox- How easy is it to do that?

    Requirements:

I weigh around 72 kilos and Im 6' 2", not a lot of muscle :P

-> My commute would be around 40kms a day-from home and back to college, plus the occasional ride. For those of you who are familiar with Bangalore, my entire route would be on the outer ring road, approximately from Marthahalli to Nyandahalli junction. A bike with a decent mileage of 40/45-55 kms would be ideal!

-> Not too heavy as Im not that well built

-> Comfortable for riding long distances, but quick enough to weave through traffic

-> Good handling, smooth, durable gearbox and easy for a newbie to master.

-> My budget is around 90k

I've shortlisted the following bikes, but if you have any other suggestions please advise me!

FZ - Ive read its newbie friendly, but the mileage figures vary quite a bit O_O How much mileage does the 2013 model give?

    Hero Ignitor

Discover 125ST - Ive read in multiple forums that it gives a lot of mechanical problems, is this true?

Hero Hunk - Good specs, but will it be too heavy?

Ive left out the suzuki GS150R as the showrooms are too far away, and its quite heavy :P Not really impressed with any of the honda bikes either, I know they're good but i feel they lack character for some reason. Just a personal opinion

Anyways I look forward to some replies! Thank you all!

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Why are you caring about being heavy? It's not like you have to push the bike, there is a motor in it for that purpose. I'm 45 kilo with disability and I could ride a bull easily.
Forget about gear shifting, it would be easy in a month. You can not easily mess up any bike's gearbox and clutch.

What about a P135LS? Very good and looks sporty too, quite flickable and comfortable too. I was planning to buy this bike but it is very expensive for me. If you could stretch the budget a little, you can get P200NS, very nice bike, really fast too. I say, why stop, go all the way and get a 200 Duke, as you seem to be rich.
      I am back!
