Kindly look upon pros and cons of these machines..
As per riding postion ( cbr has a little bit aggressive riding position)( In my experience)

dude test ride both machines and then decide you are now knowing pros and cons of both machine but i advise you cbr over the ktm ,whats the use of such power when on highway you are going at 100+ speeds and the bike is not stable and you are troubling with windblast you will get stressed soon on the other hand cbr has every thing better than duke except power now the choice is yours....

binarycodes , I was almost in the same situation as you are. The only reason for overlooking duke is the comfort on long rides for both rider and pillion. http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/what-bik...rcycle-2l.html

It's like comparing apples to oranges. How well it fits here

Dude, my advise - go for what your heart says. You will never regret.

Moreover, your requirements are all heavily inclined towards CBR. The VFM you are talking about is what? More power for less money?? But you said you are a cruiser and not a street racer. Will you be able to use that extra power (safely)?

Re: Choosing my first ride - CBR vs Duke

Duke is best for city riding. CBR is the king of highways, but pain in congested traffic. I have my RTR for city ridings, hence no problem.
Duke is light, more powerful, better handler.
CBR is damn stable and smooth at excess of 120 kmph, Better tourer.
U decide.

Bondhu - No replacement for displacement.

And here it is both displacement & power. I am going to buy my forth bike and have learnt one thing - " Buy the most powerful bike in your budget & liking " so that you never look back.

Yes, CBR being a better tourer is one prime reason I am leaning towards it.

Any clues on when we can expect the 2014 models in India?

200 NS ???
It is a good option too.
I've done few ~300kms and a ~500Km ride on mine and had no known issues.
Its around an year and 5 months old and 17700Kms done.
Given my slightly "gravitationally challenged" body and 5'9" height, it does pretty well in the mileage and the comfort part as well, that too with a pillion.
Comes in 1L on road.
Had no major issues with it till date whatsoever.
But yeah, if you want to be on triple digits constantly, dont go for this one.
Regards,
R

When duke is a option ,200ns should not be considered.

CBR - touring. pillion comfort. fairing - looks. relaxed touring on 120-130..
35+ mileage i guess

Duke 200 - 80% city ride. mileage 35.. ok for highways but no fairing so wind blast..
good for short rides.. as pillion and you both need to be very vigilant.. not for relaxed touring..

Duke 300 - forget about city.. low gears are pain..
awesome cornering by metzeller..
gives you a oragasmic rush post 5K RPM.. effortless on highway at 150.. + windblast
pillion need to be super sporty bike fan.. and super vigilant..
Mileage 25KMPL

200 is best for city ride. you gonna love the low end punch and sitting position.. the way it cuts through traffic.
CBR. relaxed touring with pillion at 120-140
390. Adrenaline rush.. pain in city.

I would suggest you to wait till auto expo with the purchase. You can go ahead with test rides and select a favorite, but wait till auto expo. As we all know Bajaj-KTM are going to unveil Pulsar & RC series of bikes with fairing. The only points in favor of CBR here are fairing (protection from wind blast) & pillion seat comfort. If Pulsar & RC series bikes are going to be launched immediately, then you will have more options and more than likely they will be VFM.
