  • current (CBR 250R) vs future (ZMA-R) ?

Hey pals - my query is always strange and confusing - so please bear with me.

Currently, I ride a CBR250R (non-abs, 2013, 8000kms) and am planning a few very long rides in feb/mar. I found the comfort level of CBR250 to be sub-par when compared with ZMA-R, especially on bad roads. I live in the city and cant complain about CBR comfort, however the long rides tend to bring up poor roads out of nowhere. So, I m confused whether to go for comfort mods in my CBR - eg raised handlebars (heli bars) and cushy seats? or, should I take up the 1.05lakhs offer (someone offered) and buy a new ZMA-R before Hero screws it up?

ps: I hate the 2014 ZMA looks (like most old people). I am 32y, avg wt and good fitness level. I ve ridden a lot around the world. The CBR was my 6th bike.

Technology wise I find the CBR much advanced than the ZMA R. I feel a little bit of mods as you mentioned should work rather than sell your almost new bike and go for the ZMA. stick to the CBR pal

and LOL about that quote Before HERO SCREWS IT UP. Hero is definitely coming up with some serious weird out of the earth designs with its bikes

Design is bad I agree. But a front high visor is a must for highways and if that comes at a price which is the looks, I prefer the visor first. Who cares of the design if the bike does not do a proper job? You ride for yourself. Not for showing to the others. As per me, if the bike can protect me from windblasts then to hell with the looks. As a rider, since only the console and handlebars are visible to me, I wanr them to look good! Lol!!
On a serious note, id say wait for the new zmr. The older model has got a good mileage and I'd expect it to remain same. Power is more which may reduce the mileage but again the bulky fairing and chain guards are reduced in weight and I guess it should help a bit in improving mileage. These reasons apply to zma as well.
And am against modifying your cbr. Bikes are best when they are in stock condition. Either continue riding the cbr250 without mods as its kinda new, or go for karizma. The above is said considering you buy a karizma without selling you cbr.

If you are in anyway planning of selling your cbr and going for karizma, then don't do it. Cbr in itself is a great machine and selling it for buying a karizma is not worth. Unless you are a hardcore tourer and your cbr is coming in the way of touring.

Just stick with CBR as you already have it and use some cushioning, according to what I know CBR has a prolink suspension and absorbs the bumps neatly, just check with your suspension and see if the settings can be changed or improved further. . .

I hate to say this... but my CBR is now sold as I was hardly riding it. Comfort issues too in the mix. I m having the following options - ZMA-R (2013 pre-screw up model), Impulse (150 or 2014mod 223cc?), outside chance for Duke390/Bullet500.

If you sold the CBR due to a lack of comfort, the Duke simply aint going to cut it for you. The suspension is simply not aimed at comfort. Low profile tyres, a firm suspension and a buzzy engine will make you long for the CBR.

If you can deal with the niggles of an Enfield, then check it out. That leaves us with the CBR's poor, old cousin, the ZMA-R. It is a nice bike alright (I've owned one for 5 years and sold it when I bought my Duke 200) but is has its share of issues, which according to me are:

Low tech, poor performance in today's world, shoddy plastics, dated looks and crappy ownership experience as far as service goes.

Believe me Bullet models are great for touring and even better on bad roads...Try a Bullet...

Thanks mate, I was thinking of Duke390 incase I hang up my touring boots. I owned a ZMA-R before and it is still with my good friend as his daily ride.

Good that you highlighted the downsides of ZMA. Actually, these are what I look for....
Low tech - One doesn't need fancy equipment to maintain this,
poor performance in today's world - I am getting older by the day, therefore "0-60 in N sec" and blistering performance is not what I look for.... good torque helps,
shoddy plastics, dated looks - actually my wife liked my ZMA yellow and fell for me (so I cant complain). Further if a part breaks.. I wont cry over it (hope the dealers stock them)
and crappy ownership experience as far as service goes - atleast I ve got several smaller dealers/ASC spread across the country unlike CBR/Duke ASCs

Go for zma R if you eyeing comfort

If you eyeing performance go for duke 390

Well, I can't argue, now that you have turned the ZMA's disadvantages into advantages. I miss my ZMA too, but when I think back about it redlining around 8k rpm with nothing left (while seeming it could still give me more), I feel I've done the best thing by moving on.

It appears that you have a deep rooted emotional attachment to the ZMA and nothing else will do. You've already made up your mind, so go for it, bud! Like you said, before Hero screws it up. Which colour are you buying this time around? If it was for me, I would probably choose white.

I think you should wait for new Zma ..its just arround the corner..otherwise you will be left with old model.

Wait for the new zma. When it comes to looks, each has his own perception. These bikes will look good in flesh. Wait till feb.
