  • Need help in getting a performance bike..under 1.5l

    Hi Xbhpians,
I am a college student and i am graduating this year. having ridden a Cb twister for the past 4 years , i am now switching over to the performance section.
Having given a test ride all around Bangalore i have shortlisted the following bikes,
    1. KTM duke 200
    2. CBR 250 R (used)
    3. Pulsar 200ns
    4. Yamha R15 v2

Ruling out the Royal Enfields (my brother has one already ) , the KTM is on top of the list in both priority as well as price but i have received lot of good reviews about the 200NS (and some bad ones too). I have no intention of buying the Karizma .I do a fair bit of touring (short and so far in my friend's bike only !!)
I would like the experts opinion on the best option..my requirements being quality ,durability and mileage, i am not bothered about pillion rider but the price factor is what i am considering at the moment..should i buy the duke or should i settle for the 200ns or is a used CBR 250 a better option assuming i might sell the bike after a year or two, in case i travel abroad for studies ??

    Query Approved

    The duke probably.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Duke 200, if affordable or else the 200ns!
It's a lot like nuts and bolts - if the rider's nuts, the ride - bolts!

If milage is your requirement 200 ns is good else duke p.s. It has less vibrations than ns

Then get a Duke 200. Pure fun..
              If want a sports-style bike, then R15v2.

              Ride safe and have fun.

I know we should help people, but this thread is way too dumb. Sorry if you find my words harsh but that's the truth
If 1.5 lacs to spend, d200
If 1 lacs to spend p200ns.
                That's all.

Both ns and duke are gud bikes.I own a NS and it has gud performance ,looks and mileage but i have ridden a Duke and it has extreme power and pick up.
I was you and had 1.5 lakh then for sure i would have got the DUKE.
                  Under 1 lakh - Pulsar 200 ns
                  1.5 lakh - DUKE

i Know it sounds dumb...i have 1.5l to spend and i can get a duke..but being brought up in the Indian mentality of saving every penny.. you always think twice and its always better when you have a number of opinions that are similar to yours... is..!!
I have read reviews about problems in both bikes, but they are yet the best offerings in the segment
So "Is duke worth the 50k extra..thats all the question is about..."

The duke is Absolutely worth every penny. It's not just the bike you are buying but the brand too. I ride a duke 200 daily to college 25kms away. I get a decent 36-37 kmpl mileage . And the fun part is just amazing. So since you have the budget and a made up mind for the Duke you should absolutely get one

From experience of ownership of 200ns and r15v 2 and a temporary ownership of duke 200 for 300kms, my analysis is yes duke has power to give orgasms every second, it is that fun which is incomparable, but 200ns is like a very little behind, I'm also from middle class and if you ask me, shauk ki koi Keemat nahi hoti ( luxury has no limits) but that extra 50k over ns didn't justified to me, had it been only 25-30 k difference, then I would've recommend you duke 200.
From my middle class + overall experience, 200ns
But if you don't care for money over EXTREME Happiness, then d200

There is only 1.5bhp power difference between NS and duke.Read somewhere that NS has also got slightly better handling if changing to some better rubber. The major reason why people say duke feels to be more powerful than NS is due to the change in gearing. So a shorter gearing in Ns would make it a hooligan just like Duke.May be not as good, but still really close.Service, spares and better FE is also another advantage. So choice is yours..

There is 1.5 bhp + 10KG LESS WEIGHT. layman terms, it makes a hell lot of differencentre.
                            MATH TIME.
200ns(1 lac) +mrf tyres(3k after exchange stock tyres) +2*10000km(30-35km/litre avg makes~ 300litre petrol~ 21000 and for two year running cost=42k) + 2 year service (practically 4 services a year, oil change on odd services(500 bucks), total servicing cost ~3k to be in max limits) = 1lac+3k+42k+3k = MAX 1.50 LACS...
                            Here lies the simple math,
What needed to take delivery of duke means a healthy running ns for two years, and that too money will be wasted in little installments, rather than single 1.5 lac flood.
now take a duke 200, ADD petrol expense(more than ns), service expense (double every time of ns) ,etc I don't think.I.need to do this math too.
End this discussion and buy that bike which suites
                            (In increasing order)
                            1. Economic conditions (include running conditions too, not just buying expense)
                            2.Love (which bike is fav)
                            That's all
