  • Need advice on selecting a motorcycle.

Hello I'm planning to buy a new motorcycle. My usage would be daily commuting (college mainly) and some occasional road trips. My daily route is largely devoid of dense traffic, has good roads, awesome twisties and small stretches along the coastline. I have shortlisted the following motorcycles :
    1) RE Continental GT - lots of character, killer looks, quite a few nice foreign names, my favorite among all the Indian motorcycles.
    2) RE Thunderbird - proper cruiser, laid back attitude, usual RE jazz
    3) RE Classic Desert Storm - retro charm, classic looks and the enfield persona.
    4) RE Bullet 500 - Its A BULLET.
    5) Honda CBR250R - Refinement, all in all a great motorcycle.
    6) KTM brothers (still confused which is better ) - free revving and all out wild.

Pillion Comfort is not a big issue as I ride mostly solo.
Fuel Efficiency is not a big concern. (but who doesn't love a frugal one )

And experienced Enfield gurus please shed some light on the famous Enfield niggle wiggles. Are they tiny tid bits that are harmless or major bugs that'll leave me stranded ?.

I'm 5 feet 10 and weighs around 75 kg. BTW I love twisties i mean love them.

Even though I shortlisted the above rides I'm open to all suggestions.
I would love to hear your opinions

    Cheers.
P.S This is my first post so please go easy on me if there are any mistakes.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

I must tell you a saying that goes for RE.
Bullt and aur hathi palna ek jaisa hai. (Maintaining a bullet and having a pet elephant is same)
But it's Re right, nothing else to say...!!

Seems like you like the REs really deeply, considering 67% of your shortlists are REs. If you are a diehard RE fan, nothing else will please you. Opt for the Continental GT for that extra exclusivity, and it will be a fun machine to ride on the kind of roads you have mentioned.
The KTM will be another wild machine to enjoy those roads, but do read the ownership threads and familiarize yourself with common niggles.
CBR will be your last option here, it's a comfort machine and will do the distances nicely, but it's not the right machine to scrape on the twisties!

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Re: Need advice on selecting a motorcycle.

Go for RE Continental GT or KTM Duke 390 as mileage is not a concern for you and have the cash.......GT is the first model of Enfield which have superb quality fit and finish and have acclaimed international standard.......but make sure you have a good SVC......small niggles will be there as its a bullet but don't know about GT....it's not a fill it, shut it, forget it bike...you have to take good care of it......KTM duke 390 is also a very good option.......probiking store's service will be great.....it all depends on you......if you ride solo, in a relaxed manner, go for GT.....if speed and power is what you are after, go for 390......if given an option to buy a bike ~ 2 lakhs, GT or 390 will be my bet

It's not about how hard you get hit, it's about how hard you get hit and keep moving forward.
It's not about how hard you get hit... It's about how hard you get hit and just keep moving forward.

Your story may not have such a happy beginning... But that doesn't make you who you are... It is the rest of your story... Who you chose to be.

Re: Need advice on selecting a motorcycle.

Niggles are in all bike bro... Not only specific to the RE. Because RE has been here before any of the late comers and also because their CI engines were famous for oil leaks, they have made a false impression in peoples minds that RE is full of niggles. I have been riding my TBTS 500, and have nothing specific to complain about. Even the duke 390 has its own share of problems.(Bike stalling when the clutch is depressed.)

Anyway, the thing is, given the budget you have... go with the bike you feel fits best to your character. Most engines/bikes are pretty well built these days and are pretty much capable to taking a beating.

Niggles will always be there, even if you get your self a ducati! So make your call from your heart.. (and also the wallet :P)
