  • Need a bike for daily Mumbai (and outskirt) commute

    Hello!

This is my 1st post here. Would like to thank the mods for validating my account.

I have been riding my brother's Honda Unicorn for the past 4 years. Now since he has decided to take it with him to Bangalore, I am bikeless!

My daily usage would be an average of 10-12 KMs, but on occasions I would be riding nearly 50KMs to reach my factory (Vasai, on the outskirts of Mumbai). So that would be a combined 100 KMs, although only on occasions (say 4-5 times a month).

I used to love the Unicorn, and would prefer a bike similar to it, or a Unicorn itself. But i do love meself some Royal Enfield. A Thunderbird 350 is what my heart wants, but I need someone to convince me as I have no idea about its FE and riding comfort.

I am 5'9" , weigh 75 Kilos and have an athletic body tending towards the muscular. I have filled the questionnaire that I found in the Stickys. Hope it goes some way in helping people understand my requirement. It is as appended below. Thanks.

    1. Budget : 70-80K , but I may get a Thunderbird 350. Need to think hard on that one
    2. Age : 25 years
    3. Height : 5'9"
    4. Weight : 75 KGs
    5. Intended usage (eg. Office/College commute, Highway runs, Racetrack usage, Weekend recreation riding etc.) : Office + Factory, weekend recreation riding, casual city usage.
    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement (approx., if any) I don;t know. 45-50 maybe?!
    7. City & Highway percentage usage 75% city usage, 25% highway
    8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running Daily average would be around 12 KMs
    9. City / Town /Village of residence (so we can evaluate road conditions / traffic / terrain / altitude / OTR pricing) Mumbai
    10. Brand / Bike type preference (if any) None!

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Bro ,the budget you mentioned here i dont think you can get a thunderbird. As per your personality i think Fz-s would suit you better check out its limited edition too, looks amazingly cool.
Orelse if you can strecth your budget over 1l r15 seems better, you can also look on NS200 or RTR180 ABS. All are great bikes
with almost same mileage and little difference in on road price.
But i would also suggest you the bullet coz your heart is beating for it,so listen to your heart, check out your needs and go for the right bike buddy..
      Cheers!!

Hi. I know a Thunderbird would not come in that budget. What i actually meant was, my budget in normal conditions would be upto 80K. But I would really consider paying more to get a Thunderbird if I don't fancy any bike in that 80K range.

R15, I'm not really keen on, as I don't like the riding posture. I like the RTR180 and a couple of my friends have the FZ. So, I guess I'll test ride the RTR180, and if I'm not satisfied, I'll go for the Thunderbird

        Thanks!

Thats what im talking about taking TD is very much important before choosing a bike. My personal experience says that you wont reget after owning an apache or thunderbird,so do TD and keep updating the thread....
          Best of luck dude,,

First of all welcome to xBHP!

Now looking at your requirements and budget you can look at Apache RTR 180, or an FZ-S and if you can slightly increase your budget you can go for Pulsar 200 NS.
Test drive all and then see what suits you.

Go for Fazer or Karizma ZMA.

Exactly my point too. For some broader roads & open highways these bikes will do right?

You are taller, which rules out all Apaches. You have not mentioned anything on reliability / endurance needs, if you want to keep this bike for longer period, Pulsars are ruled out. You have mentioned 40-50 kmpl, FZ-S might come closer if ridden sanely. New TB will suit you but it doubles your budget. I think FZ-S is the best fit for you.

If you want bullet then just don't compare it with other bikes.
                        Bullet is bullet.
                        Go for it.
New UCE engines are very reliable and have good mileage and don't require any other maintenance like CI bulls.Mine has done 19k kms in 11 months and have not spend anything other than normal servicing.
