  • Commu-tourer required

My requirements: I am looking for a bike that does both commuting and touring for me, with high emphasis on pillion comfort. I guess that rules out almost all the full-faired ones.

Though i drool a lot over the cruisers and cruiser wannabes (like Avenger) i don't really want to use them in the city with their long wheel base and all. So for my requirements, the ideal matches seem to be the Inazuma 250 and the upcoming CS400

Of the ones currently available, i guess the GS150R (lacks more bhp) and the Karizma R (lacks more refinement) come close to matching my requirements. I also loved the 200NS, but apprehensive about the seating posture, yet to take a test-drive. Riding posture on the GS is the best among those i rode till now.

Having experienced the refinement levels of the GS, i must say am bitten by the suzuki bug and hence think the inazuma is not actually a bad choice (it ticks all my requirements though its not considered VFM from a pure bhp/Re perspective). Good part is i can stretch up to 3.5L OTR (made it up just keeping the inazuma in mind). Am secretly hoping Suzuki decides to start local production of this bike and price it more competitively.

So all i can do for now is wait for the CS400 to launch i guess, and by the looks of it, it is quite a wait. Meanwhile am thinking of picking up a used impulse to do the duty till then.

The enfields are completely out of the picture considering i already own a Fiat Palio (for life) and i don't want to spend my entire life taking care of my beloved automobiles.

I just realized i didn't ask for any advice, per se, i was just thinking out loud. But feel free to give any suggestions and i beg members to refrain from making this a brand-war thread.

    Query Approved

You are looking from the GS150 to the Inazuma. The ZMA would have been the most ideal, but since that is not refined enough then I guess the Inazuma will have to do, especially since you have the budget and don't mind spending on the lightening bike.

You will probably be the first person on xBhp to buy the Inazuma, since buying a used Impulse makes even less sense than going for the GS150. You can also wait for the Gixxer 155, since you are positively inclined towards Suzuki.

I just realized that i have not given any advice, just thought out aloud
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

hmm looking through your requirements ,

I would say go and test drive both 200 NS and 220 they both are very different animals and might not fit the refinement thing you say however NS feels very refined below 5k rpm,
and 220 is a one brute machine.

I personally find 220's seating posture the best thing for commu touring.

However if you do buy Inazuma post loads of pics, If I were you and I could wait 1 year I would watch out for the adventure models of KTM or go test ride a Triumph Tiger.

What is the relation between Palio and Enfields?

I thought the Impulse can be a temporary girl friend before finalizing the bride, esp if its coming cheap! :P

Thanks for reminding about the Triumph. Late last year i saw quite a few reports of a 250cc Triumph naked style being tested. But then post the Auto-expo there is absolute silence on that. Wonder if its still on cards for Triumph India. And as I said i can wait a few more months provided it can make it to our shores.

I feel both are machines with souls deserted by their makers forcing the owners to form their own 'packs' to sustain in this world.

I second with your words on Enfield. Enfield from 1970 and Enfield from 2014 are totally different. Lot of refinement and lot of improvement in the engine performance. Anybody buying Enfield think of keeping it as a prized possession for lifetime and riding Enfield is an gift from the god... Please restrain from insulting Enfield.

CS400 which won't be launched this year I guess!

Some where I feel you are thinking too early to get confused !!

instead of used Impluse I would say try for ZMR. I would have asked you for a used CBR 250 but you have plan for Inuazuma and CS400 so it's better you hunt a used ZMR.

What i meant was i love the vehicles by Enfield and Fiat, but support from manufacturers is absolute zilch which forces us to spend a lot of time with our machines, trying to know the nitty gritty details of their mechanics. Else we will be at sea in case of emergencies/breakdowns. So, in short, no insult meant to the vehicles.

Well, if you put it like that, i agree am posting this too early. But when i started thinking of a bike 1 month ago, i had only the GS and Karizma R in the short list. Then Inazuma was launched (at a higher price point) and the CS400 was showcased at the expo. And i would like this to be a one-time affair for life (or for the next 10 years at least). So am thinking of putting off the plan for sometime unless there are any obvious choices i am missing, which is why am posting here.

ZMR - the full-faired vehicles don't really appeal to me. Esp not with 225cc. Only reason am considering the Impulse is coz its coming cheap.

                  Re: Commu-tourer required

Impulse is a comfortable bike but no were to be a tourer. It strong lacks the power and speed stuff.
And more bikes into consideration more confusion and more aggression.

Lifetime affair or 10yrs are you sure?? Now india is moving to fast in petrol price rise as well as new better models with power.
I would say when you are planning so early and planning to keep something for 10yrs or + then look for 600cc+ bike.. You will surely enjoy the wait and later gain as well.

Love and Life both are one and the same..... think !

Agree impulse doesn't exactly fit into my requirements list and all. As i mentioned earlier its only a stop-gap arrangement before CS400, Triumph 250 are launched at which point i can compare them with the Inazuma and make a decision. I don't mind a 600cc+ bike as well, but in my order of priorities, comfortable seating for both rider and pillion is pretty high, followed by ease of use in city and highways, followed by all the other things. So which 600cc bikes tick those boxes?

Meanwhile, i bought a used impulse and been using it since 2 days. Its getting quite a few stares at the traffic lights. Yesterday a fellow biker was asking "mast gaadi hai sir aapki, tip-top dikh rahi! Mileage kitna hai?" - i told him i don't know, i just bought it 2 days ago! Looks apart, with the Impulse i could see far fewer speed-breakers and pot-holes on the Hyderabad roads

For a second I thought someone was looking for me on this site! :P
If a commu-touring machine is what you desire, look no further than the CBR250R, its comfortable, and a lot more bang for buck as compared to the Inazuma.
Good call on the used impulse as well, there is no bike as comfortable as this one, the only gripe that you will have from this is the lack of power in that motor!

Depends on how your wife sits on the bike. Sitting sideways is not fun on the CBR. If she sits like guys, there would be no problem in most bikes barring the mighty 200 Duke.

Thanks, she doesn't sit sideways. And i still have to overcome my psychological bias against the full-faired bikes.
