  • Best commuter for a daily journey of 40km

    Hi guys!!
    I'm Raghav from Kota, Rajasthan.
I'm a vertically challenged guy standing at a height 5'5"-5'6" with an inseam of 800mm and weight 63kg..
I am currently in a huge dilemma as to which vehicle to buy (I'm not even sure if it's going to be a bike or a gearless!)
    My budget is 70k.
I have shortlisted the following vehicles
    1.) Pulsar 135ls
    2.) Honda cb twister
    3.) Honda dio..yupp a dio!
I'm confused which of these will be better for city traffic.
The roads here are not that great with their fair share of bumps and traffic. My daily journey is divided into 1 slot in the morning, traffic free, when i just like to accelerate my current activa to enjoy the cool weather. Then slot 2,3, and 4 are during the peak traffic hours. Usually there will nit be a pillion but yes sometimes I do have to take my mother with me. Although I have to drop her off within 10 minutes on an activa, because her destination is only 4km away.
    1. Budget - 70k
    2. Height - between 5'5" and 5'6"
    3. Weight - 63 kg
    4. Intended usage (eg. Office/College commute, Highway runs, Racetrack usage, Weekend recreation riding etc.)-College commute
    5. Fuel Efficiency requirement (approx., if any) - >=50
    6. City & Highway percentage usage - 99.999% city
    7. Approximate Daily / Monthly running - daily 35-40km
    8. City / Town /Village of residence (so we can evaluate road conditions / traffic / terrain / altitude / OTR pricing) - Kota, Rajasthan
    9. Brand / Bike type preference (if any) - Honda, Bajaj, Yamaha
As you can see I'm a small guy so I'm looking for a lightweight (under 125 kg i think would be fine) but zippy vehicle which I can manage with a pillion.
Good performance is a big plus but not at the price of poor comfort or low F.E. Also, it should be reliable, lesser maintenance is good, and general longevity must be more than 5 years.
Kindly guide me through this dilemma and feel free to suggest bikes or gearless of your own.
    Thanks.

    5'5 is not really 'small.'

    What bike query approved.

Your requirements are screaming Honda twister.

Personally I think the rear tyre of Twister is too thin to carry an elderly pillion safely. Also, do not go for split seats as split seats are not really meant for elderly people.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Don't get twister, get dream neo or yuga.

Out of the 3 you have shortlisted, Twister no doubt. I always felt Twister is the perfect bike for city commute. Dio is not very comfortable if you have to sit for a longer time (be it riding or stuck in traffic).
Never rode LS135, so can't comment. But Honda/Yamaha will be any day better when it comes to durability.
You can also try Yamaha SS125 (earlier known as Gladiator). It is much more powerful and has a 5th gear which helps in open roads. But may not be as fuel efficient as Twister.

No, in the 110-125cc category of Honda and Hero, only Stunner & Ignitor has 5 gears. Their price is much higher than SS125. Even Honda Shine has only 4 gears.

                    What. ???????
I always thought every bike has 5gear,as I don't have any experience of bike other than apache 180, pulsar 180 and 200ns. Thanks for the info.

Yes, try out SS125 for a relaxed ride and it is powerful enough to pull 2 people comfortably. Take a TD.

I think ss125 is too old & will get replaced anytime soon
                        My opinions are

                        For fuel efficiency

Honda dream yuga/neo/ twister (all have same engine)

                        For comfort

                        Bajaj Discover 100T/100M/125T

Choose which is best for you

hi Raghav, listen to me carefully. 150 cc bikes can best meet your purpose. Since you have a low budget, you have only two options in this segment; Yamaha Sz-R and Hero Achiever. Both will comfortably suit your physic. SzR has better look and Achiever has more power (Achiever 13.6 bHp; SzR 12.1 bHp). Both the bikes provide mileage around 48-52 kmpl. Pulsar 135 has excellent performance and handling-ability; but it has refinement issues which will make you worry sometimes.
