  • 2nd hand Thunderbird TBTS or Thunderbird AVL

Dear Members, This is Rahul here. I am currently interested in purchasing 2nd hand Thunderbird. After searching on the internet, i managed to shortlist 2 bikes. The specifications are below

    A) Thunderbird 350 AVL engine.
    • Color- Black
    • Kms run -13000
    • Model- 2007
    • Silencer- WB silencer
    • New Battery
    • Overall very well maintained
    • Price- 75000 Rs

    B) Thunderbird Twinspark
    • Color- Mint
    • Kms run- 13500
    • Model-2010
    • Very nice maintained
    • Price- 85000 Rs

Had heard there are lots of problems in AVL especially Oil leaks and Tappets. I have never really ridden Twin spark so really confused. As per my discussion with AVL owner, he says AVL engines are better and reliable.

Appreciate if you all can help me in my selection.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

Fellow XBHPians, apprecaite if you can comment here. Need to finalise soon. I was actually planning for AVL as the engine is nicely maintained .Will that be good decision in long run?

to be frank anything above 50K for a AVL is waste of money(personal exprience).it has got very poor resale and demand in 2nd hand market.Engine is noisy and i have seen mechanic cursing the bike and engine opened with them.

in Chandigarh AVL doesn't get sold for even 40K.(myself checked out one at 42K and rejected due to engine noise) so i am shocked at the price of 75K for AVL.
better is to buy a UCE Thunderbird. it is new engine and it is much better than AVL

where are you from and have you checked olx for thunderbird ?
        200NS 25K kms / RE500 7k kms / Electra 30k kms / P150 80K Kms(SOLD) / i10 40k Kms (SOLD) / Tata NEXON 2K Kms

AVL was not a success story so please don't go for it.For almost 1L you can get standard 350 twinspark brand new.
Try to get one cheaper if you don't want to get a new one.Only check out twinspark models.

My Advice is to get Twinspark. it has Improved UCE Engine, better resale , Parts availability and hopefully less trips to mechanic than AVL model.

Thunderbird is around 1.3 lakh on road so it is nearly 50K costly that the twinspark you are getting.. not a bad deal if bike is in good condition.
one more Negative points of AVL is, it is a phased out model so sooner or later parts will be a problem with it.

Dear friends, finally could lay hands on new TBTS. just 500 kms driven. Collegue was going onsite and grabbed a nice deal. thanks all. Really enjoying my ride with this great Bull.Luving the mild thump as well. Seems like the stock silencer is good enough. Not much loud, but pleasant to ears.Click image for larger version
